Woolies - chav shop?

My youngest daughter was given some Woolies vouchers for her birthday from one of her friends.

I haven't been in Woolworths for (probably) ten years, but I went there today, with my daughter, and I couldn't believe some of the low-lifes that seemed to be attracted to it.

Maybe it was just this one store at this one time, but I won't be rushing back.

It has deteriorated severely. I worked there over Christmas about four years ago, and on Saturdays, the people you'd see coming straight from the DSS to spend £20 on lottery tickets was astounding. To make it worse, I was on the music counter, and had to put up with constant piped Europop, shoplifting baseball-capped yobs and grannies in purple tracksuits buying Michael Bolton CDs.

Woolies has never been the same since they stopped stocking Airfix kits (about 1980).

I won't go in to Woolworths. There's no coincidence that it's on the Western side of the centre of Reading!

There is an imminent takeover in the wings. If the Apax outfit fails to buy them, then Green will pick it up and make it another BHS. I bet the stock is running down a bit pre-sale...

Woolies, Superdrug, Primark, Quality Seconds etc etc all attract lowlifes due to the lack of security.
Superdrug in particular have had major cutbacks in staff recently and coupled with a management decision not to employ security guards this has made it a thieves paradise.

The Big W near us is closing - I think it's too expesive for the scumbags, or the security's too tight.

In defence of (some of) these shops, I have to say that the best black socks I've ever bought (work socks) are the Jeff Banks packs from Matalan - excellent stuff. They go very nicely with my Jermyn St. shirts...

Actually, Matalan sell some nice quality stuff for feck-all money, if you don't mind wearing no-brand name stuff.

I've been to the main Woolworths HQ in Swindon. This is an entire office and distribution complex made completely out of parts salvaged from old Woolworths stores! This is especially noticeable on the stairs!
