in short, it beggars belief that just because the speaker is black, and it is about black children - that this hasn't been touted as the single most racist thing to come out of the CRE's offices... ever!

God damnit, I was just about to post this!

I think its insane, why should you not be allowed to see your kids if you miss a meeting? Whats interesting is that my sociology book claims that blacks are far more likely to remain in their childrens lives after a divorce or in the event of marriage never happening. Caucasians are the ones who skip out. (in general, and this is innercity america)

He's associating citizenship with race. Bad boy.

Imagine what would happen if a white male suggested seperating young boys on the basis of race to improve grades!

Exactly...

Imagine the headline White Boys should be seperated...

The idea that only white folk are capable of racism is laughable...

For starters, I'm not sure where I stand on this.

What happens if you decide to separate underachievers as a result of poor grades, and they happen to be largely black. Then what happens when you recognise that the black kids are getting a better education, so you decide that it's unfairly biased in favour the black kids.

Basically this news story is racially provocative, but worse I suspect that it comes from an undue observation or "experimentation" with kids. This sounds like "New" thinking to me.

There was actually someoe on the politics show describing the Tony Blair government as "New Totalitarianism", believe it or not, in a pro labour manner!

Extra cash for black teachers ? what is this guy on ?

I'm sure that'd go down like a lead balloon in a vacuum with non-black teachers.

So would teachers of black girls be expecting a pay cut.

Well done Trevor Phillips for having the guts to talk about the problem , rather than ignoring it, and actually suggesting a means to help rectifying it.

Yes you are right most will find the necessary solutions unpalatable and you will be met by howls of derision as attested to by the previous string of posts.

I thought under socialism everybody was supposed to be treated equally. You can't have one group getting more education than another... Smacks of elitism to me!

Yet another devisive policy that serves only to make differences.

I thought it was the case that boys did better when educated in a single-sex environment, regardless of colour? However, it's nice to see the CRE doing their usual job of promoting harmony and equality

If black girls are doing so much better than white boys, what suggestions does Mr Phillips have for white boys?

The honest truth is that the nation, and in particular the education system has become built around a feminised agenda. Boys of all races can't compete when the vast majority of teachers are women who teach matriarchal values from a socialist perspective. Political correctness has undermined masculine values, so there are few positive male role models and increasingly little for boys to aspire to.

I believe that most of the male yobbish behaviour is borne of frustration and anger from a directionless and increasingly hopeless young male underclass.

What we need is a return to traditional teaching methods, more incentives for male teachers and a concerted campaign to restore some masculine values to society. Until then we will continue to breed a nation of male under-achievers and scrotes.

I don't think Trevor Phillips is a racist - I just think he's approaching this from his own narrow perspective. It is sad that a white person empowered to do the same thing would be branded politically incorrect.

Dave Gormans point was spot on, it should just be any kids, regardless of race, colour, or sex that are taught seperatly,
But do schools not still teach in ability groups anyway, when I was at school we had 6 grades of class for each subject, and I think the school I went to still uses this method, so the kids who need a little extra help end up in the bottom grades and are taught accordingly

Hear Hear!!!

All education up to the age of 16 is feminised.

There is very little competition and much of the assesment is based on coursework-all of which suits the female brain much better.

As a side note most of the problems of secondary schools are caused by children coming to them at the age of 11 barely being able to read (if at all).

This was caused by the eduactional establishment abondoning Phonics-Middle class children can make up for this with home support but working class children of all races have often suffered badly.

These are "Difficult and unpalatable" decisions, whcih have to be made. And all Trevor Phillips is doing is publically admitting to what most people have known in private all along. However, I think that we need to look a little more closely at the issues on the table here.

Are black people less intelligent than whites? I doubt it. (Although I would add that asking this question publically would be incendary in the extreme, and I await flames for even daring to breathe this thought on this forum - hello PP.) In which case, what is the problem? Is it linked to the fact that blacks cause way more than their fair share of the crime statistics in this country? And possibly also linked to the fact that something like 80% of children with absentee fathers in London have a black father. Perhaps it's that the black culture in the UK is not geared up to education, social responsibility and law-abiding behaviour. These are all undoubtably linked, but no-one seems to be doing much about it. Political Correctness, Positive Discrimination and other such Noo Labia policies do nothing to help - rather they perpetuate the tide, allowing these trends to continue.
Mr Phillips said:
A lack of self-esteem and positive role models for black boys also compounded the problem, as well as an attitude that being clever is not cool.

"If the only way to break through the wall of attitude that surrounds black boys is to teach them separately in some classes, then we should be ready for that," he said.

What is he doing about this low self esteem? Why are there so few black role models? How is he going to persuade these people who are culturally averse to education to change their culture? He has recognised the "Wall off attitude" (good), but offering them smaller classes and a better educational system is not the answer. The fact is that any child will do better in a smaller class, and to offer this "Premium Education" to people by race is nothing but racism against people not of this selected race.

And as for paying black teachers more because of their skin colour - reams of reports have been produced by this government about how unjust it is that the average salary of whites is higher than that of ethnic minorities, and now they are looking at doing exactly the same thing the other way around!

I congratulate him for having the balls to make such a suggestion. Even if his ideas aren't taken up, its thrown into the melting pot and encourages discussion.

Personally, I believe that education begins at home. Parents should take an active interest in their child's education.

Going off on a limb here (and risking a lynching), to single mothers - any man who can't be bothered to pay/see his child - why weren't you clever enough to realise this before you slept with him?

Does this mean that if I hadn't done so well at school, I could demand a more 'punk/metal' approach to teaching?

I mean, looking back, I seriously think I would've done better at maths had I been taught by Keith Flint.
