Eh? As far as I can see you have to have 1Mb to start with, and in any case it mentions £3.99 a month. How is that free?

Be very careful - reading the terms and conditions,
it looks like anyone with an NTL cable connection
speed < 1MB currently has a 1GB per day volume
limit - moving to 1MB means you have a 3GB per
*month* limit....

2MB - 1GB per day

Cracking stuff, 2mb broadband for £19.99 a month. I phoned ntl and the chap told me that ntl upgraded all their connection speeds yesterday. All you've got to do to up your speed is turn off the modem, leave it off for a few seconds, then turn it back on, and hey-presto!

Well, after a bit more digging around the NTL website
I think the parrot has it right, and deserves a nice
piece of cuttlefish. The 3GB a month limit is for
the 'budget' £17.99 a month 1MB service - for the
more expensive 2MB and 3MB services, the cap is set
at 1GB a day.....and the upgrade from 750K to 2MB is
a no cost option.

There still appears to be a scenario where upgrading
from a 300K service to 1MB brings down the volume limit

Apologies, I was wrong, have now upgraded to 2mb

Quick note, I have the old Pace settop box, which is coal powered.

This box is technically limited to 1Mb/s, so in order to get my 2Mb/s service, they have to send an engineer out with a newer, better settop box.

Just in case anybody upgrades and finds their speed doesn't get higher than 90k/s.


/edit: The newer set top boxes aren't available to me until the 4th April.

Excellent, if true! I take anything telesales/support drones at ntl have to say with an entire Siberian salt-mine sized dose.

I tried to 'upgrade' via the website this morning, but according to them I only have a dial-up account! Bearing in mind I was one of ntl's first broadband customers seven-odd years ago (when you had to buy your own cable modem!), I find that a little puzzling, not to say disturbing as it may mean I have to (gasp!) call their support number Every time I've had to do this in the past things have gotten worse rather than better to the point where I once went down to their Nottingham HQ and shouted at people until they promised to sort it out. Hold music hell here we come...

NTL say they are currently sending out details of the free upgrades. I was 750k for 24.99 upgraded to 2mb 1gb per day limit jolly good lets just hope it doesnt affect the reliability

BT Internet are also upgrading new & existing broadband customers to 1mb & 2mb networks,depending on the max speed your local err thingy ,over the next few months.Alledgedly this will NOT cost anymore,it is a free upgrade.Probably so they don't loose more custom to faster networks.

when i was on 1.5mb i dont know if they had a cap or not?
but i never got any calls from ntl regarding the cap or for using to much bandwidth!
and have been downloading about 100gig+ per month since early 2004!
will have to see if the 3MB Cap actually works
should be able to get like 300gig+ per month now with 3mb? lol

Just rebooted my set top box and I'm still getting 300K I was hoping not to have to ring them up but it looks like I will have to.


Thinks, is this a back door way for them to cap my current unlimited line?
