Have you all seen that advert, I think its for hot chocolate or some such bedtime drink, with the catchline 'how do they sleep at night'

Well this morning on the way to work I saw a bus driver do what the guy on the advert does. He had just closed his doors to the one person who got on, but there was another guy running up the road to catch him. The guy managed to get level with the door of the bus just as the bus pulled off... the bus driver didn't stop for him, just gave him a stare and carried on.

Poor bloke looked gobsmacked that the driver didn't stop for him. Do you think the bus driver should have stopped or due to the fact that the wheels were rolling he was quite right to carry on?

I'm undecided but probably think the driver was right to carry on, just seems a little harsh for the bloke that will probably now be late for work

It must be a boring job so the temptation to be naughty will be fairly compelling. I remember one morning my mum dropped me off at the bus stop and the git just drove straight past. She was still parked there so she picked me up, overtook the bus, shot ahead 1/2 a mile to the next stop where I stood and...the bugger shot past me again. This happened four times (it was a 20-mile journey) before she gave up and drove me to school.

Apparently the manager at the bus station got quite an earful after she dropped me off I must admit I would have been quite tempted myself had I been the driver though

What!! Stop to pick up passengers??!!

You'll ruin the carefully crafted timetable that 'the management' have spent all the profits on.

Par for the course in London. See it every day.

Does remind me though of one of the few times I was on a bus, in Tooting. Chap running to catch the bus as it pulls away, he's banging on the side running at full tilt trying to get it to stop.

Unfortunately he didnt see the bus stop that he ran straight into the side of in true slapstick comedy style.

The driver, the entire bus full of passengers and everyone at the bus stop after dealing with a brief second of shock absolutely collapsed laughing.

Poor fella.

I went up to Parcel Force to send a Special delivery which they don't accept after 7pm. I got there in the queue at 7.01 - got served at about 7.03 (big clock on the wall as you look ahead).

I asked if they were OK to take it SD and the guy said, ok, just this once. A bloke behind me in the queue then said, will you take mine too mate?

And the guy said no!

I was quite embarassed and felt like apologising to the other guy in the queue ...

Its worse with trains, especially when they only come every 30 minutes and you get there 25 seconds before it is set to leave, but due to "policy" they won't let you on!

If anyone can find a copy of Bob Newhart's 'Bus Driver's School', it's hilarious - drivers trained to cause as much frustration and grief as possible

I think they are told to not stop for the person running for the buss. And if you want transport to be on time then thats part of the cost. Say it takes an extra 30 secs to wait for every late person and it happens 10 times then the buss will be 5 mins late. Not really fair to make all the people standing in the freezing cold at the bus stop to wait an extra 5 mins is it.

So no he's not a meanie. It's just part of the job.

Haven't heard that one but the driving instructor is brilliant.

Thats taking the ps !
I'm doing the late trunk tonight, don't let the guy tell you "it's too late", I don't shut the back door till 20:20.
And they wonder why they aren't doing so well?

The emergency door open button will work all the time, and the driver usually can't override it.

It's no wonder we won't use public transport..... ten seconds late means standing out in the cold and rain for another half hour.

As our illustrious Margaret once said, any man who has to take the bus at the age of twenty eight should consider himself a failure. She's got a point you know

Yep. Boring job getting to him.
I worked at 192 for a while. You are supposed to act like automatons. No control over workload but very high quantity of calls (180 - 240 calls per hour, at the time). At three in the morning when you get all the drunks you get a bit sick but you can't do anything about it.
What happens though is that some colleagues still behaved like complete arses to everyone. Just because they could.
It's like the 'second-in-command' scenario. Your boss would normally be OK, but give the deputy a little bit of power and they turn into a total tit. Worse, if it happens to be a husband and wife team with one exerting more power than the other.
I know I'm generalising.

Me and a mate were once stood at a bus stop, the bus stopped and let a guy off, we then walked up to the door to get on, he stared us both in the eye, shut the door and drove off...with my mate running after it shouting!

That would be a ship surely?

Or perhaps a syringe?
