For Alicante I normally use Easyjet, book early and you can get there and back for under £50 (inc taxes). Not the most comfortable but you are in the air for only 2 hours.

both fly from various UK airports. I know the BMI fly to Malaga, not sure about Alicante.

When we went at short notice last year we found that flights to the resort areas were expensive. We flew to Madrid (better availability) rented a car (cheaper than by the sea!) and drove the rest. Nice drive and save money.

I recommend flybe as well, cheaper than easyjet for us last year.
