A 12-year-old boy who raped his teacher has been detained for life.
The schoolboy, who is one of Britain's youngest convicted rapists, attacked the woman as she sat next to him during a one-to-one teaching session.
Afterwards, he stole her car and drove it for 30 miles before dumping it.
The stocky youngster, who is just 5ft 3in tall and has severe learning difficulties, admitted at an earlier hearing raping the teacher at a special needs centre in County Durham in November last year, and the theft of her car.
At Teesside Crown Court, Mr Justice Grigson ordered the teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, be detained for life.
Sentencing the cropped-haired boy, now 13, the judge added: "These problems are not of your own making, but it is plain that until these problems are dealt with you are very likely to commit other offences, other offences as serious as this, so the public has to be properly protected until such time as your problems have been assisted."

But thats something I have often wondered.
Has the incidence of this sort of crime genuinely gone up or are there just more news people these days.
I'd be interested to hear Dibble's or Gone's thoughts on the matter as they have a goodly number of years in service...

I don't think overall crime has changed that much recently but violent crime is rising rapidly.
As a side note there a now more street Robberies in one of London's more dubious boroughs in a month than there were in the whole of Britain in 1960 in a year. If you think on that statistic you start to wonder very hard what has changed.

We need the political equivalent of Gavin Henson to metaphorically dump tackle the Labour party as they are all too well practiced at the avoiding tactics.

Even more ironically, our dear PM promises more cops, but only the transport police are currently recruiting, so im told....

That is part of it Mrs Fish certainly because street Robberies will be most effected by this-but there has to be more to it than that, we cannot blame it all on lack of police-do we need to turn Britain into a Police state with one permanently stationed on every street?.
It is caused by the collapse of our society- a collapse that has happened at a time of ever increasing prosperity.

Nope, I think you'll find we have another 30,000 or so poorly trained, powerless "Community Support Officers" to help us feel safe in our beds
This will no doubt be trumpeted as a "massive increase in front-line policing" double What I don't understand is...
That this boy is to be detained for life, not as in the usual murder sentence of 10-15 years, but actual life, for rape, whereas those three mosters that hacked the boy to death have only got 13 or so years, less probably.
I just don't understand the logic....

I don think tehre has been much change in crime at all as it goes - I think there is definitely a change in reporting levels of this stuff.
Im sure that when the Moors murderers, peter sutcliffe etc were reported in the news half the country went 'oh this didnt hapen when I were a lad', and when the nazis ran concentration camps the whole world saw utterly inexplicable evil....and just forgot that the British and Spanish had been committing similar levels of atrocity ionly a few hundred years earlier everywhere in the globe..and so it goes on..
I think there may well be an increase in crimes being committed at younger ages - and Id blame that on the media for glamourising thes things too much.....look at our 'trash' tele now - Big Brother (or the "will staggeringly irritating publicity seekers have sex with each toher" show), Jordons tits (all three of them), 'stuff they banned from tele but we'll show you now' All this stuff is watched by every generation....hardly a surprise when some of it spills over into reality is it?
