Another rant thread I'm affraid
Discussion
I've just had my supper, and while cooking/eating/clearing up I was watching news24. This is possibly the most distressing channel you can possibly watch.
The 2 news items that specifically pi**ed me off were the child rape case, and greenpeace. The former, for those of you who haven't heard, is the story of 2 15yo boys raping a 13yo having beaten up her boyfriend who now has permanent brain damamge. They have both been sentences to life but are eligable for parole after 4years 3 months
what the
made the judge think that was a good idea eludes me, but it doesn't seem right.
I also read the thread earlier about the scythe murder. Do things like this happen in other countries and we just don't get to hear about them, or is Britain becoming a complete
hole?
Secondly, greenpeace thinking they are above the law and swimming infront of Scottish pear-trawlers fishing for Sea Bass. This alone wouldn't bother me too much as its their look-out if the boat doesnt stop and they get run down. But they are putting bouys with grappling hook like things on the bottom of them to destroy the nets. Their arguement is that the nets are killing off Dolphins. Now I agree that the world would be a poorer place without dolphins, but the Greenpeace people don't seem to care that they have just ruined a £30,000 net and are affecting the fishermen's livelihood.
Sorry, just had to get that off my chest, I know its been done before but any comments are welcome.

Yes and yes. Unfortunately.
yes. welcome to britain, circa 2005.
i lived/worked in manhattan for 2003 and went all over the city most weekends - never once did i feel threatened or vulnerable. sad to say, but i sure as hell don't feel so relaxed/safe in leeds or manchester, let alone london.
come to think of it, the times i've been in tel aviv have been perfectly fine - the threat of a random bomb i can cope with, mentally, but the feeling of a general air of aggression and fear i can't.
many reasons why we've reached this sorry stage but we have st tony bliar to thank for much of this anarchy and apathy.
we don't expect an immediate resolution to our society's woes but we could sure as hell do with seeing some severe examples of justice to at least show society's scumbags that "enough is enough" ...
I love that smiley, makes me smile every time I see it.
Thanks for your replies. In a way I'm glad it's not just here, but equally it limits the places you can go to get away from it.
I went out to Morocco 3 years ago and absolutely loved it. That was the sort of place I expected to feel threatened by just being there but I didn't. I only get that feeling here when I know there are a bunch of chavs near me / my property.

4 years & 3 months WTF- Some judges are simply out of touch-By the sounds of it they shouldn't be considered for parole for a lot longer than that
