Diverting a mobile

I know this seems like a daft question, but I have two mobile phones, a work one and a personal one. My work one fits into my car kit etc so I have diverted my personal mobile to my work phone so I can answer both hands free (what a good boy I am!)

My personal phone is on '3' and my work phone is Orange, but do I get charged if someone rings my persoanl mobile and 3 divert the call to Orange?

Yes !!!! you pay for the cost of the divert, something like 20-30p a minute, if not more.

Years ago, I got a bollocking from the boss for running up his mobile phone bill. When I queried it, most of the charges were for diverting to my personal mobile. We were on a job, where they NEEDED to be able to get hold of me. Vodafone didn't work where we were, orange did. I did point out to him, that if the girls in the office had rung me on my number, as they had been told to do, there would have been no diversion charge.

"The diverted part of a call is charged to the person who set the divert."

Its a bit of a scam really. Its not actually costing whichever phone company anything more than if you'd made the call between mobiles yourself.

Something else that OFCOM will slam them on eventually.

errr actually it bizarrly is costing the companies due to the call routing methods used and the peering contracts etc.

If the two phones are on the same netowrk, find out if they do a 'network level divert' thing. A divert within the mobile network costs the operator nothing, aside from 2 mins on the phone to a droid.

Beware, however: Orange stopped offering this service due to the amount of upgrade scammers getting people to change numbers and get a new phone while still on contract, swapping the old mobile to OVP Virgin (free line rental) and setting up a divert from old to new. Feckers (the upgrade scammers, not Orange).

Turn one off, leave answer phone message with other number and instruction to ring.
