iTunes – how many updates

FFS How many bloody versions of iTunes are they releasing?

Just fired it up this morning to get my usual message of “A new version of iTunes is available etc…”. I’ve had this thing about three months and I think this is about the 7th or 8th version I’ve downloaded. That’s one every other week.

Don't understand - you're complaining because they update it, fix stuff and add new features?

iTunes is ok, but the quality of downloads is terrible. 128k is just awful.

BTW, if you want to burn your iTunes downloads to mp3 so you can listen in the car, do a google for JHymn.

I buy mine from allofmp3.com - download in any format you want, free of DRM certificates. Do what you want with it.

Their software is merely a download manager that neatly files all your music in a folder you tell it to. Updates once in a blue moon.

The problem is that you may aswell download illegally if you're using that because the artists see none of the money and it has recently been declared illegal by several music industry associations.

The problem with itunes as has been said above is that the quality is fine for listening to on the train but for anything else you are reaching the very limits of what is possible. It would be a good step if they offered a download in the apple loss-less format as well as AAC.

I don’t have a problem with that but do they have to release an update every other week. Couldn’t then consolidate it into a quarterly service pack or something? That would save me a lot of bandwidth.

Thanks but, I don’t download any music. All my stuff is ripped from CD or vinyl. I just bought the iPod for the ability to have my entire music collection on a portable device. If I want new music I still buy a CD and then rip it to the iPod. I’m talking about downloading updates for the iTunes software that manages the music and syncs with the device. They seem to release a new version every other week.

Very odd - I haven't had an update Since Jan 12th, and it was October for the last one.

But its true, none of the money reaches the artitst. I use it to from time to time, but only to try out new stuff or try-before-you-buy kind of thing.

On the other hand, very little of your money goes to the artist when you buy the CD either.

I use a simple rule; if i have enough respect for the artist and I'd like them to make more music, I buy the album. If not, I'll get it for free (or very cheaply) as I'm likely to delete it at some point. No sale lost as I wouldn't buy it in the first place.
