Okey dokey medics here goes.
Eldest son being sent home from boarding school with suspected mumps they have had one case so far.He due to arrive in the next couple of hours.
I have four other children aged 16.5.,12,10, and 8 what are the risks for them other than the obvious sterility,if they catch the mumps.
Hubby and I had mumps as children.
Any use trying to get a dose of gammaglobulin from my G.P. tomorrow,or will this be too late.
Incidentley,all four have not recieved MMR.For valid reasons.

I had mumps as a child and had them again when I was 27.
I had a face like Winnie the Pooh and a gait like John Wayne after a week in the saddle. Plums the size of grapefruit.
My friends came from miles around to look through the window and laugh.
I must be unlucky. I caught chicken pox again when I was 37.
I now worried what might happen when I'm 47 which isn't that far off!.

No vaccination for MMR triple or singular.
Singular wasnt offered when they where tiny.
So no vaccination.

My children didnt have the MMR because 14 years ago it was a new vaccine. in this country at least.
and as a medical research scientist I felt there was insufficent evidence to prove its saftey,so i guess i didnt want the government to use my children as guinea pigs...............

Without wishing to turn this into an MMR thread, I would agree with you and I also didn’t let my kids have the MMR. But I got the single vaccines privately instead. Surely the decision you faced wasn’t to vaccinate or not – it was to use the triple or singles?

Lots of mumps going around at the moment.
Not really relevant in your case, but I can't help feeling its as a direct result of low vaccination takeup with the recent media-hype-non-issue regarding MMR.
Just had BabyV6 done last week and it was quite tricky to get an MMR appointment due to the demand for teenage appointments...

It's a bit late now then to worry about the dangers of Mumps for your kids.

Exactly!!
Children are not property-you have a duty of care as a parent!!.
Do people like this have any idea what the rate of childhood mortality once was in this country?-Children dying in their droves from the diseases which were virtually eradicated by Mass immunisation.
What do we have now?-Oh I won't get the children immunised because I'm a bit worried about this new fangled Multi vaccine jab.
What makes this even more terrible is that they are not only putting their own children at risk but increasing the chance of an outbreak for all.
