Got really annoyed at the checkout today.
I was packing my bags and the kid behind (about 8 yrs old) moved right down past the till, and his mum wasn't far behind.

When it came to me signing I assumed they'd move back so I could reach the receipt...oh no! Instead I had to almost walk into the kid who still insisted on standing there oblivious to the fact I was having to reach right infront of him to sign. I was practically leaning on him to do it!

His mum didn't even attempt to move him for manners sake.

Jesus christ, what is our society going to turn into when people can't even respect other people's space. I wish I'd said something but I was that damned shocked at the lack of manners!

Kids seem to have less and less awareness of what is going on around them and how they should react to it. Parents to blame.

Just think, there's a whole generation of these hitting the roads in the next few years. Who'd want to be a driving instructor?

I had a similar situation in the supermarket today. Felt like I'd got caught up in a David Attenborough documentary called Walking With Chavs - loud and abusive parents, kids so feral they probably had tails, all pushing in, grabbing stuff off shelves last-minute, and being generally agressive and uncontrolable.

And what happens when I let them through a tight spot in a aisle? A thank you? No, they just glare at me.

What makes it worse is 'chatty' till staff. It would be fine if everyone just went to the till, scanned, paid, went, end of. Instead, they stand there with 'put the kettle on' voices talking about trivial rubbish and getting in the way of the bagging-up section of the till as they ramble on and on about 'I'm a Big Brother Get Me Celebrity Status Academy' or whatever.

So they're clogging up one end, the chav hordes are pushing up the other, one end smells of tea and cheap perfume, the other just smells, and the girl behiund the counter doesn't half take her time.

Aaaargh! Just be polite, everyone!

Just got shouted at in a supermarket when a small boy AND his father walked into my trolley.

I was standing still at the time. Child hit his head, father doubled over. Received tirade of abuse, as this was, apparently, my fault.

As I couln't find anything worth buying (was on way home, passed shop, realised time, thought of dinner, nil edible located), I acknowledged their insults with a pleasant smile, resisting my urge to correct their grammar, and left, resolving never to stop in Darlington again.

I shall now be ordering a take away, if anyone wants anything...

If I had of said anything I don't know whether I'd have said it to the kid or his mum (who was also right up by where I should have been to sign on the board).

I think if it happens again I'll ask them if they're planning on paying for my stuff

Last time I actually told a chav parent something along those lines, his son stamped on my foot and said he was going to set me on fire. His dad did nothing.

We should be able to hunt them...

Another of my pet hates. I came in to buy my stuff, pay, come out again. Not to talk about the weather and the last awkward customer you had. Yes, be nice to me, but I dont wish to hear your life story thankyou.

It’s not always the chaves though. Last night in a little local Co-Op I had a bit of a full basket and I wanted to buy some lottery tickets so I let the shirt and tie business man standing behind me go first because he only had a couple of bottles of wine. Did I get a thank you or pleasant cheers mate no, not even a nod of the head or a smile. In fact no acknowledgment at all.

Miserable git.

of course, then there is the cashiers who look at the offending peasant and ask them to move back until the transaction is complete

I do it even more now that chip and pin is there, it's great fun seeing someone watching a customer entering their pin and catching their eye and simply staring - makes them very embarrased

If you just need a few things our local Co-op has those DIY scan/pack/pay machines. In principal excellent if a little bureaucratic at times.

You MUST put the goods into a free placcy bag or else it won't move onto the next item. Some sort of weight based security check, but other than that v quick, v handy and nobody to hold any emabarrassing purchases up for general comment.

Plus you can swear at the machine and nobody complains.
