I know it might sound like a silly question, but does anyone know about 'anti-cancer' food?

It's no secret - I have recently been going through the whole 'C' experience, and was told yesterday that my particular situation may be in some way related to the immune system. Some people fight off melanoma better than others, and the experts seem to think that there is some connection between varying kinds of immunity chemicals or something. Injection trials are being done at the moment to see whether these different chemicals actually do anything.

But I have heard that the right diet can help. I know nothing, except that someone told me once that Broccoli was good!

Does anyone have any information on this, or can anyone suggest any good books that might help me?

Sorry this is so far fetched from the world of cars!!!

Edited because I can't spell anti.

Hey T,

I've got a book on it at home, I'll post it tomorrow. Broccoli is a so-called super food (steam it to keep in the goodness). Also cut out tea and coffee, but drink lots of green tea (with Jasmine tastes much better than without, IMO).

Not much I know, but I'll post some more when I'm home.

Another few off the top of my head are sweet potatoes, kale, spinach and beans (can't remember what variety, but I think it's safe to assume not Heinz!).

I think most of it's just good eating sense really, but I'll post some more tomorrow......

Tomatoes, can't remember why though.
edited to add, Lycopene is the prime active ingredient.

Also Omega 3, so oily fish.

Personally I don't touch cows milk anymore, and try to eat whole foods rather than anything that is processed.

My Mum was brought up on a farm and has always grown her own fruit and veg, and I certainly think it's benefited her in her fight with cancer.

I think there's a lot of merit in it. All of the foods that I remember are really really good for you anyway, so it will at the very least do you some good!

Pumpkin (especially the seeds)
Red bell pepper
Strawberries make the list if purchased organically.

Any oily fish, but only get organic Salmon, as ther have been some issues with the way the salmon is coloured....

The seeds are an excellent aphrodisiac apparently.

Try them roasted with soups.

Just think of it as healthy add-ons to your current diet (minus any really crappy stuff you might eat, like Maccie Dee's), particularly the seeds and beans.

Soon start to like it!

Antioxidant - Vitamin E - tocopherol.

Works by soaking up free radicals (eg the highly reactive O instead of stable O2) which bounce around your cells generally causing mayhem and possibly damaging your DNA. Such 'loose' oxygen atoms occur from time to time as a 'misfire' from normal metabolism.

So - head for Vitamin E. In moderation of course

Green tea - they've recently identified the tumour inhibitor and are about to produce several treatments based on its properties. Not recommended if you're pregnant though.
