Who owns props from movies

Im speaking to someone about sourcing some props from movies, the chap I know is a dealer by trade, and fascinating to chat to. Prices range from easily affordable to ridiculous, but props make good investments, great conversation pieces its all good fun I suppose (providing you get your certification etc)

Be VERY careful and triple check authenticity and original source. I was about to buy some fairly expensive Star Wars bits and bobs but wasn't 100% convinced by the source even though it was a 'dealer' so walked away. I suppose the key is to be able to walk away from the deal if ANYTHING looks remotely fishy.
Most props looks pretty crappy closeup to be honest - some of the replicas are better pieces and more like they appear in the films. I used to know some chaps who had some *serious* props - Darth Vader costume etc!

It's funny how many cars studios go through whilst filming, and how cheaply they crop up when on sale. Obviously not really rare and expensive stuff, but I've seen one of the Volvos used in The Saint for sale in some classifieds for £7k once, and I understand certain 'non-recognisable' Bond cars have gone for more 'welcome' prices - someone snapped up the OHMSS DBS for £10k (needed restoring though), I think the Mustang went cheap, and the AMC Matador Oleg Cassini Coupe from The Man With The Golden Gun was snapped up by the Cars of the Stars museum at auction for next to nothing a few years back.
I'd love to have a 'movie' car, but not something so rare or recognisable it couldn't be used on the road. Just to be able to pull up somewhere in style, and for someone's distant memory to be triggered as having seen Roger Moore driving it or something, must be a great feeling.

When I'm on the M1 on a friday night, I often wish I was in a flying delorean!!
This is the guy who was willing to give me jimi hendrix's diary in exchange for work, if we strike a deal, but I'd prefer something from a movie. Id love chester neclace rock, or the map from the goonies. Or a whip from raiders of the lost ark.
re: the delorian, which bits did he have? The BTTF cars had hundreds of bits stuck on, both inside and out.

If you had Hendrix's diary, you could sell the publishing rights and make an absolute fortune! I wouldn't turn it down.
