Aliens Vs predator

I watched the above movie last night and am still filled with the deep depression it gave me, why oh why did Hollywood take these two great franchises and give it to such philistines?.
The film itself is only 90 minutes long-probable as that is as long as the attention span of it's target audience of young teenage boys-doubtless it is as long as they can keep from Masturb*ting.
The script shows no imagination whatsover and the direction is pitiful.
I have witnessed the end of two great franchises which had reached such peaks.
The tragedy is that it didn't have to be this way- The basic idea is sound-if only the execution were not so poor.

It started as an 'In-Joke' from some props guy* on Predator and then made it to video games. It was never going to be fantastic was it?
I particularly like all the old cliches, like Spud from Trainspotting dying first, because he showed a picture of his kids
* Besides, the gag didn't even work. It was supposed to be an alien skull in the predator's ship. But they don't have skulls, just exo-sceletons.

Wasn't that in Preadator 2? When did the AvP comics come out?

Well, the Alien franachise lost all credibility with me when Alien Ressurection came out. They should have stuck at 3 films.
On the whole, I think AvP could have been a lot worse than it was.
I suppose you are right it could have been even worse than it was.
and Alien did start to go downhill with A4-but Alien Resurection is a damn sight better film than AlienVsPredator.
I don't necessarily buy the notion that this was always doomed to failure-James Cameron could have made this a more than decent film.

Danny Glover stumbles across the Predator's trophey room. Not sure when the comics came out, I understood that the computer game was first, but don't know for sure.
As a package it was truely awful, and the whole human storyline was just sickeningly bad.
However I have to admit I did enjoy the actualy Alien - Predator fight scenes, I thought they were directed really well and especially liked the Alien's whipping tail and the use of it's acid blood.
I always preferred Alien anyway and the first two films are among my favourites of all time. The ending of this movie however made me lose all respect for the predator, made it appear about as scary as a rubber duck!

Yes they were OK-though badly filmed all 2 minutes of them in a 90 minute movie.
By the way I didn't find my view of the Predators changed-I have always understood them to be basically honourable warriors looking to prove their worth-look at the ending of Predator 2.
I take it the version you watched last night was the DVD, not downloaded or anything? And if so was it a director's cut?
It's just that when it was released the director make a lot off fuss about how the studio had demanded a load of cuts 3 weeks before release or something stupid. He claimed the cuts were to reduce the rating to a 12/pg13? and involved lots of important, story developing scenes to be cut. The claim was that the plot was totally changed by the removal of these scenes. He said at the time that when the DVD comes out it would have a director's cut with the intact film that real aliens/preadator fans would enjoy.

Dark Horse comics Alien Vs Predator was circa early 90's l believe. I got some of them somewhere and very good they are too.
Conceptually the two are an acceptable tie-in to the geek audience...the film was nowhere near as bad as say: Resident Evil 2 and in some ways better than Alien ressurection but could have been so much better, (like so many films these days).

I've bought the DVD-watched it all the way through-said what a plie of crap, then noticed another option on the menu-Extended version
I will watch it a few months from now and see if it is any better.

Resident Evil 2 is another pile of horse manure.

Damn right they were good. Several other memorable strips in there, think the comic it was in was called TOXIC or something like that. My bro used to get it.
