Road Bike Reccommendation

I'm looking to replace my mountain bike with something more suited to the riding I do. Someone mentioned that proper road bikes are far easier to ride (as in, takes less effort) on the road than an MTB. So, has anyone got any ideas of what would be a good (cheapish) road bike to get. Second hand isn't a problem.

Not a huge lot of use, probably a few times a week at most. Looking to get fit without having to be fit in the first place, tehn use it as transport once i can ride at a decent pace without turning ito my own personal rain shower. My MTB takes so much effort to ride, i can just about get round the block before i turn into a wobbly heap and have to stop.

A cheap solution is to fit a new set of wheels and skinny road tyres to an MTB.

Assuming your MTB is a hardtail that is. If it is a full-suspender jobbie then you are wasting a lot of energy pedalling the thing !

I have a hard tail Kona with a set of road wheels and tyres on it and it just flies !

I would go to a little private shop and tell them your needs. They will let you have a razz on them normally. Last years models are always a safe bet for a deal and there isn't much changed on them for "2005" spec bikes.

Get a good set of SPD pedals from LBS for 20 quid and root around in their shoe department for last years MTB or touring shoes. You should be able to get some for 30 quid.

Makes all the difference.

that's the kind of thing. What would be the difference between teh lower and higher priced ones?

My current bike is a Falcon Flite, and is a non suspension MTB and seems to be made of cast iron judging by how much it weighs. Needs a new front gear set as i snapped the changer off the chain a few years back, and the front forks keep threatening to fall out so i think it's time i got rid and bought something decent.
I've had a Giant MTB in the past and it was good, until it got nicked that is.
