Help!-My wife has discovered plastic.
Discussion
My wife and I have a joint account into which we both pay our salaries.
It is an arrangement that has worked well for some time-I withdraw cash to cover our normal expenditure-enabling me to keep a proper check on things.
My wife had a debit card, but didn't use it, in fact she misplaced it for a bit and couldn't find it for over 6 months.
But now, oh dear
I look at our bank statement online, and it is like the death of our bank balance by a thousand cuts.

I suppose the question is if you don't trust someone enough to have a joint account with them should you be married to them.
Though I am paying a bit of a price for it now-My theory is that if a woman can't see the physical cash she does not regard it as real money.
The first is why my wife insisted on a joint account. Bitch !!!
I know a number of people who have very little restraint when it comes to spending...even if you love one of this sort of person, a joint account is a risk.
The other risk is if the relationship goes pear-shaped, and they either go psycho on you or just try and take you to the cleaners (as above).
My suggestion, if you're concerned - have a joint account for house stuff, bills, groceries etc., but debit-card only, no overdraft.
You each maintain your own accounts with the balance of your own salary in there, but you agree between you, based on relative earnings, who puts how much into the JA per month.
Although after that, there's nothing to stop you buying gifts for your partner...because it's then clearly your money, they're clearly gifts, and will be received as such.

Hmmmmn.
We have a joint account - into which we both pay the same sum every month. It pays the mortgage, household bills, food bills, fuel when on journeys together and so on.
It *doesn't* pay for anything that is only for one of us - its such an easy rule to follow - we never have any arguments over it. Shoes, clothes, presents for one another etc are our own problem and come from our own bank accounts.
