Thing is, the workmanship looks superb, and it's probably pretty convincing to look at. Until the engine's turned on, and they find that not only is it lacking something in the region of two cylinders and an extra 1.8 litres, it's in the wrong place as well!

I have absolutely no problem with this car, he's obviously only driving it because of the cheap insurance

If it was a choice between that and your Mums shopping trolley, what would you choose

I never said I had a problem with the way it was built, but surely if you're doing a replica (and externally, it looks near-as identical to the real thing) of something mid-engined, with no rear seats, RWD and an engine in the boot, surely you don't choose to base it on something with four seats, FWD, and the engine in the front.

Same goes for those Maestro-based Ford RS200 replicas - yeah, they look great but why?

Some people just don't get that when you've messed with your car to make it "unique", it isn't not what 99.9% of buyers want it to look like.

I wonder what the reserve is, £1250 now, but not met it's reserve. Why buy that when a standard and easier to insure, more tastefull original one with same mechanical condition would be half that price!

Spotted a mint Peugeot 405 Mi16 Lemans on the other week, ultra rare apparently, £4000 starting bid. Now mint on Parkers says about £1600, so how can it be over twice as good as a perfect condition one?

For 4k you can now buy a 1998 406 Coupe 3.0V6 SE with full leather and all the toys....

Lets see....hmmm....the above 406 Coupe or a 405 with crap wheels...

Thing is though, if you declared all the mods to the insurers, it WOULDN'T be cheap... they reassess based on likelihood of theft/ damage brought on by chavbling.
