OK, so I'm getting married in June. We don't want a band because they are too expensive and could be shite, and we don't want a DJ because we run the risk of Dave Knight and the Wheels of Steel showing up in a 1982 Transit.

What we have settled on is a laptop, a PA system and a load of tunes.

Over to you guys - I need about 200 top tracks for a wedding. Rules are:

1. 70s / 80s / early 90s preferred
2. No boy bands
3. No heavy metal

A bit of Duran Duran, New Order, George Michael, etc sound about right. Though I wouldn't put too many 'fun' tunes in or it'll sound like Yates's on a tuesday night. Oh, and a bit of the one-gloved paedo usually goes down well.

I often wonder why on earth people like the idea of having the family doing the conga to Black Lace on what's supposed to be the best and most profound day of their relationship. Peter Kaye's a funny guy, but I'd rather take his comedy as a warning, rather than a recommendation.

How strange, what a coincidence - me and the wife are having a leaving party as we are emigrating in three weeks and have been compiling a playlist for our mates who DJ semi-pro and also did our wedding and did a bleeding fantastic job.

They still have the playlist from that, so this isn't complete, but last week me and wife sat down with our CD collection and three bottles of wine and had a damned good play through.

I'm a big 80s metal fan, but like you think that maybe not all our friends want to headbang to Megadeth all night, but we hate 90s boybands and most of the below is 70s/80s. There might be some in there that you like (ignore the starring btw ). Rock (esp. 80s hair rock makes quite a big showing!)

We've tried to go for popular songs but not obvious ones (like no Sweet Child o' Mine by GnR but Paradise City instead which people hear less often these days). Obviously you need to bear the audience in mind - this list and the others will be played to guys mainly in 20s and early 30s. We had a fair bit of rock at our wedding though and the sight of my 53 year old dad hopping around playing air guitar to GnR and then falling onto his recently replaced hip or my wife playing air guitar on her back in her rather expensive wedding dress will stay with me forever!
