Bank Sort Codes

Just trying to organise my finances

Opening up an ING Direct account and sorting out R85 tax free savings form. Obviously with ING I cant but a "branch" down as they don't have any! Would there be a sort code? I've searched though all the papers but cant see anything resembling one!

It's all internet based so doesn't have branches.

If it's UK based then it WILL have a sort code. I use Intelligent Finance who are internet only, they have the one sort code for all accounts.

Cahoot is the same - but the address is on the back of the credit card.

Seek - and ye shall find - try the 'contact us' section on the website or telephone their helpdesk (they will have one - again look for it)

Once you have logged onto your account online, you will find our sort code and other relevant information within the 'Move my money' section

damn it. I know where I can find it! I have to log in to get it. I have my customer number but I don't have a pin yet.

Guess I'll just have to wait for that to come through before I can apply.

Sort codes are specific to the financial institution, for example that for nationwide will be different to that of barclays.

However all nationwide should be identical for example.

Anyone who works in a bank or building society shouold be able to help, as every one that Ive dealt with keeps a big reference book in a cuboard near the cashiers with all UK sort codes in it.

Failing that, (and ringing your bank up to get the ing sort code is possible if you cen get the branch) then give ING a call?

Or am I missing something obvious?

Sort codes beginning 10 or 12 are Bank of Scotland, in the 20's are Barclays, 30's are LLoyds, 40's Midland (HSBC) 50's, 60's & 70's are Nat West and 80's and above are Sundries and used by all and others.

ING may be affiliated to another institution and so use something in their ranges.

(All the above from memory from when I worked for Barclays, probably 15 or so years ago)
