I haven't seen it appear yet.
Do we think the money saved will improve programs, or just fuel more trash?

Don't panic FWD, management jobs will be safe - you will pleased to hear your licence money will still go to the same, pompopus, fat plutocrats. It's just the coalface workers that will be discharged.
Although having said that, contracting work out because of the lack of internal staff usually results in the sacked technical staff popping up and starting their own studios and charging double (it's true... ask me!!!).
It's more than 2000 BTW - over and above the 1720 they've already 'lost', that's one in four...
It's going to be a lot more than that! Don't forget the job losses from professional services that were announced a couple of weeks ago. The figure will be about 3780 (about 19% of the current workforce) by 2008.
My licence fee payer head says "about bloody time too"
My BBC staff head says "About bloody time too, not sure if they've gone about it the right way though"
My future licence fee payer head says "Bloody hell the BBC's producing some crap nowadays - why's that then?"
I'm just not sure that all of these cuts will actually make a massive difference in the programme quality for the future, which is a shame.
On the upside however, money saved from these cuts is being ploughed back into technology for the good of the country, especially HD TV.
It's been a busy day for me that's for sure - no signs of it getting any quieter either!

The BBC was at the forefront of designing systems like Ceefax, and NICAM stereo. It has also done wonders for audio technology over the years.
They've just sold off their technology division, so they won't be doing much more of that.
Staff cuts at the BBC aren't a good thing. The BBC used to have one of the most rigorous training systems in existence, producing highly skilled individuals whose expertise enriched our film and television industries. Then Mr Birt came along and ruined all that and more.
You think you get a poor deal from your License fee? Think about that, when you're buying your shopping (and subsidising the independants).

And one of them could be in this household too!
sorry beano500 perhaps we shouldn't let our disgust at the BBC's News/Current Affairs programmes spill over into other areas.
BBC sport is good, and there are a few other programmes that are also good.
If they simply sacked every single person associated with News/Current affairs at the BBC and left everyone else alone that would be fine with me.
