Stopped in Taunton deane services south bound this morning. As I came out of the shop, a couple of asian lads asked me if I could help them (the only reason I mention them being asian,is because this would be understandable to some degree if you had no idea of the geography of the UK).
"are we on the right road for Birmingham"?
"you are, but you're heading in the wrong direction"
"oh how do I get there"?
"go down to the next junction, turn around, and keep going for about two and a half hours"
"how far is it"?
"must be the best part of 200 miles"
"oh.......how far is it back to London"?
"about 200 miles"
At which point, the two lads started arguing with each other.

And I thought my day had got off to a bad start...poor sods!

When doing the towing. I used to "lurk" in a garae just ouside Brighton while waiting for a call. A regular question was "How much further to Dover?". What, do people just take random exits of the M25 and hope it ends up in the right place?

But Dover's right near Brighton isn't it? I remember that from my school History when we learned all about Sir Francis Bacon going ten-pin bowling in Dover when he saw a Spanish Armadillo (or something )

I worked at a big postal depot in Leeds for a while. One night on the way home a chaffeur-driven Merc pulled over with 2 businessmen asleep in the back, the driver leaned over and asked where Leeds Castle was. He looked less than happy when I replied "Kent"
I still wonder if he got his passengers there before they woke up and realised

There was a young lady at the same university as me (Southampton). She lived in Ireland and once drove from home to Soton.

She missed the A34 exit on the M4, so carried on to London, turned around at the first roundabout she found and went straight back along the M4.

Luckily she didn't miss the junction again, or else she might have ended up back in Holyhead!

I had an engineer coming out to look at my water heater yesterday. He called me up 4 times to ask for directions from the other side of Dartford tolls.

Eventually, I asked him if he had a map, to which he replied that he did but then went on to say that he could see my town on it, but that "it could be anywhere" and he couldn't find it. Say what???

He was Irish...

Old, clearly not mentally clued up enough to be driving lady at petrol station near m25 j8 was asking for directions to southampton. She was wearing pajamas and slippers, and smelt decidely incontinent. Counter person was clearly unsure whether or not to tell her, or call police to see if she was an escaped nut job

Yonks ago, I was dropping an empty container at trafford park Manchester. A portugese driver comes in, not speaking any english at all, hands over his paperwork for us to help him.

The place he was looking for was in Godmanchester !!!

That reminds me. Years ago I was in Swansea at some services near the M4, with a colleague, and this Welsh bloke came up to me and asked "is there any way of getting to Bristol without going over the Severn Bridge?" I said, "yeah you can get there via the Severn Tunnel". I then said that he needs to take the sign posts to Cardiff and then follow the signs to "Cardiff Arms Park". He thanked me profusely and went on his merry way.
