Do I have the wrong Impression of Prince Charles?

I was just watching an item on GMTV (I know, I know, I'm off work with a bad back!) all about Charles and Camilla, and all that stuff about the wedding.
I know the wedding was done to death on here a few weeks ago, and my opinion is they should get married, and be done with it.
My concern, and one which I have only just considered, Is the fact that Charles will be our next Monarch. Is it just me that thinks the man is a bumbling Idiot? Has he had a raw deal in the press?
I would like to give the man the benefit of my doubt, but every time I've seen him on telly, or read any reports about him, I am always left thinking the same thing...
At present I have no confidence in him as King, am I alone? I feel Prince William will prove to be a greater role model than Charles.

I have the utmost respect for Charles and he strikes me as a thoroughly decent gentleman who gets a rough time from the press and public due to their obsession with Diana. He seems a damned good father too (especially since one of his offspring appears to be a bit Hewitt-like).
Long live the Queen though - very dignified, elegant lady indeed.

He is a victim of the British press.
He has done a million times more for charity than Diana ever did. To her charity was just media manipulating photo opportunities. For him charity means doing genuine good in the community.
Also I think he has had a major impact on British architecture and town planning. We now live in far nicer places thanks to his efforts. He does loads for British business as ambassador at large.
Overall I think the picture the press paint bears no resemblance to reality but still the majority are gullible to be taken in by it. The British press are truly disgusting.

If somebody is in the public eye as much as he is it's fairly easy to find and use footage of them that will show them in any light the editors fancy. Unfortunately for Charles they have decided that he is a fool so will use footage of him bumbling or looking foolish, they decided Diana was some kind of latter-day saint so guess which kind of footage they always used of her. anonymous said:

As a lover of modern architecture, I agree. However part of me does worry that our modern masterpieces may not age well and we'll end up with glass equivalents of the Bullring or 70s office blocks. It's unlikely, but you never know. The Gherkhin may end up being our next Centre Point...

I don't think its contemporary architecture he particularly dislikes, although we all have our own preferences and his is towards older fashions. Its the modern estates, the Doric columns, the town developments that have no architectural significance to the area in which they're built. Its also the disgusting way in which old buildings are given 'makeovers' which very often include replacing perfectly serviceable wooden doors/windows with plastic ones, and replacing cast iron guttering with plastic.

he strikes me as being remarkably in-touch, especially when considering his family background and media pressures.
i am delighted that he's had the conviction to at last marry camilla. she seems a sound lady. good luck to them both.

Seems eminently qualified for the job.

etc, etc, etc. You will see from his work that he is very far from being thick like the media portray him. He cares and works hard on key issues in the community. Because he isn't seeking re-election he can just get on with the job despite our truly apalling media.
Its very easy to make a judgement based on what is quite plainly a media distorted view.
Clearly, the general consensus of opinion on PH is that he is a sound guy with a genuine interest in doing some good... not an opinion I had of him until 20 minutes ago.
I would say that in general, I tend to agree with most opinions on PH, so maybe I need to give him another chance.

It looks like I am going to be the Roundhead in a camp full of Cavaliers....
Charles has led an incredibly privileged life whereby as a result of his birth he owns half of Cornwall and a succession of other properties.
He enjoys playing the part of a man of the people, but many reports have demonstrated him to be a petulent, morose and upleasant man who treats other often with contempt.
He has servants to do everything for him, including such lunacy as ironing the newspaper.
The Princes Trust, while a worthwhile organisation, has little to do with him - he is a figurehead, no more.
I do agree with him on a few issues - such as the need to architecture to be in sympathy with it's environment, but this is largely common sense, and architects have come to this conclusion anyway without his input.
But Charles for PM? Oh come on - he really has no credibility for anything really.
And finally, so what if he drives an Aston Martin? The man and his family have conned the British people out of billions over the years. I'd be suprised if he settled for anything less.
(I'm now standing back and waiting for the cries of "Traitor" and "Throw him in the Tower"...)

Do you feel we need a member of the monarchy to provide this?
How can someone at the height of power, not be a role model? good or bad.
OK then, do you think people look to the Royals in general for role models?
