Ebay Scam

Dear all,

received an email from [e-mail] telling me about a small unpaid bill, links on the email open up as an ebay page (username/password etc..) but it's not actually ebay. So please be careful if anyone receives emails from them.

Just forward the email on to ebay, who will shut them down. If you are really lucky, action will be taken against them, but its usually not that tough for scammers, unfortunately.

I had a message today offering second chance on an item I bid for. Message came from a user name not the same as seller and from ebay.com not .co.uk.I have reported it to ebay and wait for a reply.

I had one that asked me to log in, and enter all my details: address, passwords, card numbers and even PIN numbers used at ATMs!!!


So.... I filled in all the boxes... with the worst swear words I could think of.

I received one asking me to upgrade to a Powerseller, looks very genuine but opens a spoof website and asks for your login details. Reported to Ebay as it's the second one I've received now.

I had one of those... but they had added the checksum process to my card number, and kept telling me that it was not a valid number!

There's a toolbar adon for Internet Explorer from Ebay that'll alert you when you're not on a genuine ebay site.

I recieved and replied to the "Powerseller" scam email.
Was rewarded with some Tw#t listing two Cadilac Escalades on my account

I'm now a little more carefull

Forgot to add , Stupidly my email password was the same as my ebay , so the scammers also opened my email a/c and deleted the warning messages from ebay

A good idea of course

Spoofed sites are easy to spot when you get emails asking you to log in, but once on the actual spoofed site, with the URL appearing as it would on the normal site, people are easily fooled.

I had an invitation to be a Power Seller - you need a feedback of 98%+ and turnover of a certain amount in a quarter (I'd just sold a car). It seemed entirely pukka so I responded and sure enough the logo appeared after my name: so it was genuine.
