Reference for an ex-employee
Discussion
A lady (called Sharon) that used to work for me some years ago asked if I'd give her a written reference that she could copy and send to prospective employers - she's now looking for another job. She was a superb worker so I said that I'd be more than happy to do so. She popped round my house today to pick it up and you should have seen her face when I asked her to check the factual accuracies. It's such moments that make life worth living. Needless-to-say, I gave her the proper one after she fell on the floor laughing. As follows:
To Whom it may concern,
I have known Sharon XXXXXX, since before the operation 18 years ago, when she was known as Kevin. I can confirm that she has made a full recovery and is rarely in trouble with the police these days, and I’m also pleased to confirm that her drug addiction, since her release from HMP Broadmoor, is now well under control.
I’ve no doubt that she would make an excellent employee, providing, of course, that she does not come into contact with matches, knives, laxatives, or any form of toxic bonding agent.
As I’m sure she mentioned, Sharon is a ‘Sagittarius’ and would therefore not be prepared to work along side anyone who is a ‘Pisces’ or an ‘Aries’. It was this combination of star signs that caused the problem at her previous company –I gather the lawsuit against her is nearing completion.
With the above in mind, I can wholeheartedly recommend Sharon as an excellent employee, although I would recommend that that you check the level of cover of your company’s indemnity insurance.
Yours sincerely
