I fancied the range rover to replace the marvellous walnut warrior that was the Rover. But my mechanic scared the life out of me with horror stories of the bills for Rangies with around the 110k on the clock that I was looking at. So I wussed it on the basis that my second car is supposed to be the cheap one to run.
Hatchback required (hence the sale of the Rover as it wont carry the mountain bike) and the replacement for the Rover has been collected today.

yeah, they seem pretty hardy from the brief research I did and the boot is massive. It needs a bloody good service and cambelts doing, as well as front boots and an exhaust at some stage. But it was a good price and drives well. Insurance was not too bad either - £326 fully comp protected no claims. Not too bad at 26.

Finally started work on the Rover today (well, not me personally!) so it shouldn't be too long now...
the sad part is that when the TVR sells the replacement will be in blue as well. So that means Claire and I will have 4 blue cars. Oh deary me.

years ago when that shape was current, we sent a 4year old one to auction with 230k on it, turned up couple of months later down the East End with about 80k on it according to trading standards!

the best bit was we gave about £4k for it, must have been two clockers bidding against each other cus it sold for £7500!

please can I still be in the club? I have to say the Rover was a revelation and one of the best cars I have owned. So much fun and never attracted the wrong attention in terms of plod, thieves or people trying to race you. Awesome bit of kit and had so much fun with her. Just a shame it wasnt a hatchback. I did look at an ST24 Mondeo but thought it would probably cost double what I paid for the Toyota and depreciate rapidly. As it was, I was going to spend far more on the second car than I did, but I liked the celica idea and I actually specifically wanted that shape as I wasnt a fan of the later one.

You made a good choice with the Celica. Had one myself a few years ago and like you needed to get bikes etc in it. Used to easily cram 2 FS Mountain bikes, 2 people and full kit/camping gear in for weekends away to the Peaks/Malverns.
What are you replacing the Chim with?
yeah, the boot in the Toyota is incredible! will fit my FS mountain bike in there no probs.
The Chims replacement wont be announced until she is sold and the car bought. Suffice to say, its actually not that exciting really!

Good luck in getting the Rover sorted. Funnily enough myself and a couple of PHer mates are replacing the head gasket on the S on Sunday.
