Worst ending to a movie....

How many films have you seen which are truly great...let down by a terrible ending...


I nominate "Alien".

Utterly sickening and terrifying...until a man in a rubber suit swings around on the end of a rope get sploshed with water...dear oh dear....

Ok the film was a bit pants anyway (IMHO) but the ending was even worse. It ends that way, or the other way, or, 'I'd like to think', says narrator popping up from nowhere, 'they all lived happily ever after.'

Ok, the whole thing was abysmal, but the line at the end of Armageddon where the pilot says something like "Permission to shake the hand of the daughter of the bravest man I've ever met" has to be the most nauseating thing ever commited to celluloid.

I find I have to agree with Lois. I've seen all three and thought it was the most torturous 37 hours of cinema I've ever had to sit through.

I've never read the books (except The Hobbit) and people keep trying to tell me that's why I didn't like the films. I reject that suggestion wholeheartedly - they should stand up on their own merit and IMHO, they don't.

But Lotr was really just one story - big story = long film (as you said 37 hours). What were you expecting?

Not liking them is fair enough but to have not seen them because the first one ends like the book seems silly to me.

3 books = 3 films = 1 ending. If you watch all three they flow very well with lots of different threads being handled fantastically well.

Worse ending probably has to be alien resurrection..........
