When asked by a reporter if he had any lecture series by a Democrat, he replied that a democratic lecture series might explain why a lot of the inmates were in his jails in the first place.

With temperatures being even hotter than usual in Phoenix (116 degrees just set a new record), the Associated Press reports: About 2,000 inmates living in a barbed-wire-surrounded tent encampment at the Maricopa County Jail have been given permission to strip down to their government-issued pink boxer shorts.
On Wednesday, hundreds of men wearing boxers were either curled up on their bunk beds or chatted in the tents, which reached 138 degrees inside the week before.
Many were also swathed in wet, pink towels as sweat collected on their chests and dripped down to their pink socks.
"It feels like we are in a furnace," said James Zanzot, an inmate who has lived in the tents for 1 = years. "It's inhumane."
Joe Arpaio, the tough-guy sheriff who created the tent city and long ago started making his prisoners wear pink, and eat bologna sandwiches, is not one bit sympathetic He said Wednesday that he told all of the inmates: "It's 120 degrees in iraq and our soldiers are living in tents too, and they have to wear full battle gear, but they didn't commit any crimes, so shut your damned mouths!"
Way to go, Sheriff! Maybe if all prisons were like this one there would be a lot less crime and/or repeat offenders. Criminals should be punished for their crimes - not live in luxury until it's time for their parole, only to go out and commit another crime so they can get back in to live on taxpayers money and enjoy things taxpayers can't afford to have for themselves.
Sheriff Joe was just re-elected Sheriff in Maricopa County, Arizona.

bring him over here and let him lose on all the wastes of space in our prisons.

Human rights? sorry the only human rights I care about are the victims.
You rape/murder burgle steal cars. you lose those rights. then when you go to prison you get treated baly so you dont want to go back.
IMO the liberal experiment that has been going on for years in this country has failed, Prison should not be there to reform it should be there as a punishment first.
Doncatraz appaently had a recording studio
and we payed for it.

Surely any prison system bases itself on the general rights of society. If people choose to live outside those rights they get their freedom removed. Beyond that is very tricky to justify whilst maintaining a semblance of society.
A while back there was a story posted from a UK city trader who was incacerated under Sheriff Joe's custody. He writes to his parents and they publish his writings in a blog. Whilst I am all for harsher punishment in the UK there has to be a line and IMO Sheriff Joe crosses that line.

Not in my view-its time prisons stopped being a cushy holiday camp

We lead the world in talking and debating followed up by doing
all. Things can only ever get easier for prisoners in this country. Hell, its not that easy to get locked up nowadays, and should you actually get locked up - you get let out again without showing remorse - and we even line up camera crews so you can express your lack of remorse on the evening news. you couldn't make it up.
God help us if the Liberals get into to power.

It is a standard of care that is a threat to society. If punishments become beyond the bounds of reasonability then people will do whatever they can to avoid it. That will in itself lead to a collapse of social structure ultimately.

Totally agree with him and this is precisely the reason for it above. Prisons have become too cushy, prison should be a punishment, how can it be if they are given toys and games to play with.

Heis not beating them or torturing them.-unless you classify pink uniforms as torture
What about his unwillingness to stop the brutality of his prison guards or that prisoners in his custody (still innocent as not yet proven guilty) have to experience the same stuff as the convicts.
You can take it too far.
Chaingangs on the otherhand are great. Prisoners + ablebodied unemployed could do some real good.

Perhaps he would consider a move into british politics he would make a good Conservative home secretary.
