What is going on with the Ban on Fox hunting?

I know this is a sensitive topic, but work will be taking me to the Lake District and countryside beyond soon and the people I will be staying with all have opinions on the subject. I've stayed with them before and this always eventually comes up over a few beers. I’m very confused with it all. Is there anyone that can shed any light?
Will you remember what we tell you after a few beers? 
There were some good topics around the time of the ban that went of for about 20 pages, but I think the search function is broken at the moment... maybe someone who posted in the topics will have a link?

Some hunts are keeping mainly to the letter of the new law-still killing foxes but by a different means.
Others are staying with the old ways when there are no witnesses about.
It hasn't made much of a difference to the hunts yet-they say they are keeping the hunts going until after the election and (they hope) a Tory victory-which I can't see happening.
Good on them for standing up to the Lentilist Facists thus far.

Agree with whatever your mates are saying if you want a bed for the night. Both sides are still a bit hot under the collar on this one.
Better keep conversation to something neutral like abortion or asylum seekers

A Master of the Essex Farmers and Union fox hunt was arrested this afternoon (Saturday 12 March 2005) on suspicion of causing Actual Bodily Harm and Criminal Damage, following a series of threats and attacks on hunt saboteurs and their vehicles.
The hunt had met at the Anchor public house, Runsell Green near Maldon, Essex intending to flush foxes towards guns and shoot them. Hunt saboteurs claim that a rider with the hunt made clear threats, saying "One of you is going to get it today. One of you is really going to get hurt." Hunt supporters attacked saboteurs on several occasions.
At approximately 1.30 p.m. a Master of the hunt attacked a hunt saboteur, attempting to smash a video camera used for evidence gathering. The saboteur was struck with ship several times on the wrist and on the head. She was taken by ambulance to Chelmsford hospital with a suspected broken wrist and concussion. Another saboteur had already left the area after being beaten up.
At 3 p.m. police arrested a Master of the hunt as the hunt packed up back at the original meeting point.
A rider with the hunt had ridden into a tree earlier in the day and made a false allegation that his bloody nose was caused by hunt saboteurs. When the saboteurs explained the embarrassing truth, police took no further action.
The toffs are still riding roughshod over the lentilists.

You are one of very, very many. In the country most people disliked the hunt coming in and taking over. No regard for anyone but themselves. Arrogant.
Tony and his cronies seem to have made hunting popular by their actions. It appears to me that people in general are fed up with Labour and are using hunting as an issue to have a go at them without realising how disgustingly obscene it is.
I know it sticks in the throat but there is no doubt that this ban is a good law. Hunting with dogs was truly barbaric and served no real function other than to sate the blood lust of the hunt people.
