What's Biggin Hill like?
Discussion
You do realize there is an airport there?
They are in a big battle against developers trying to get the land after the usual numpties bought cheap houses and complain about the noise.
THERE IS AN AIRPORT THERE!!!!
..there.. just giving you the official warning that noise complaints by somebody buying there NOW should be shoved up their arses.
..Rant over, as being a pilot I am annoyed with the many green areas that airport comprise of are being shut down by NIMBYs who bought after the fact. Then they are filled with industrial complex/ Barrat/McHousing houses causing stress on local infrastructures..

Absolutley, pilot here too, and ardent trackdayer, so it's a double whammy...b@stards.
Here here! I'm a pilot too, and I couldn't agree more. I fly out of a former WW2 air base which was then used by General Aviaition straight after the war. So for 60+ years there has been aircraft movement. Then you get new members of the local community wingeing about the noise!
It makes me laugh. For years there has been a campaign against expansion of Heathrow. Then when Concorde retired (a crime if ever there was) all the locals come out in force saying how it will be missed blah blah.
I lived in Staines as a student. That areoplane made more noise than about 100 747s put together. I mean it literally shook the windows as it took off.

Its the same issue as the Castle Combe thing. As a trackday driver and professional pilot I am getting annoyed with people moving to an area only to complain.
Also aircraft noise levels have gone down since the days of early jets. Small single engine Cessnas etc have the muffler technology to lower them also as seen in Germany but the CAA are dragging their heels to certify them.
Buy a house in Biggin Hill, stand up against the NIMBYs and tell them you dont want the large green area (which is home to many birds and wildlife btw) covered by buildings.

Whats Biggin Hill like - Far King Freezing. Like PoD, I worked for FOM. Unlike him, I was a rigger gimp, spending hours outdoors loading trucks etc.
Seriously, Biggin Hill can have it`s own weather system on some days - 5 miles in any direction and it`s completely different. Always seems to be windy though.

Biggin Hill?
I live just up the road. Bits of it are lovely, although the high street always looks a bit scummy to me. Transport links are terrible - I think the nearest station is Bromley South, so you either drive or fly
If you work in London you would be getting a bus to Bromley.
I rather like the area, given the money I would like to move a bit further out of town that way. Some nice driving within easy reach too!
Edited: oh yes, it's a bit too close to horrible scummy New Addington

I don't need a train I work in south east London so I will go in by car.
So New addington is scummy thats interesting to know I was considering there as well.
By the way -I take it the airport is only working during the day.

Biggin Hill,
Very hilly, No transport links except buses hence cheaper house prices, ok if you drive to work though. Air Show once a Year which gets very Busy. Its not a bad place really.
New Addington avoid like the plague, No more to say on that place.
Stick with Westerham, or what about Hayes, Bromley? or even South Norwood I know a very nice 2 bed end of terrace going at the moment

Westerham's pretty nice.
Hayes used to be but seems to be being invaded by the NewAddingtonians.
Bromley's a bit "townie" (read "chavvy", these days).
I don't know South Norwood.
How about West Wickham or Beckenham?
If you don't need an easy rail link, I'd be tempted to go further out into the countryside.

I'm tempted too but I've got to drive a fair way into town to either Lewihsam or Crystal palace and I wouldn't want to have to drive for over an hour each way.
Westerham is ideal-trouble is the cheapest thing I have seen there is 200K for a two bedroomed house.
Hence I am thinking of Biggin Hill (which also sems cheaper than most of Bromley)
