So thicko chav vigilantes are picking on anyone who looks like Maxine Carr. Was this woman a stupid dupe taken in by Huntley who has paid her debt to society (my thoughts) or is she evil personified like Myra Hinley?

Carr look-alike goes into hiding
A South African student on a working holiday in Britain has been forced into hiding by gangs who have mistaken her for Maxine Carr, The Times reports.
Diane Carraro was falsely believed to be the ex-partner of Ian Huntley who murdered Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman in Soham in 2002.
She was verbally abused and saw posters of herself posted near her home in Cheadle, Staffordshire.
Carr was released from jail last year and given a new identity.
Her whereabouts has been the subject of much speculation, and with feelings running high, some women looking like her have suffered abuse and have been spat on.
Police worries
"I've been terrified," Ms Carraro told The Times.
"They have been throwing things at the windows, putting up posters and calling me a "murdering blob."
"They have taken photographs of me in pubs and Cheadle and screamed at me in the supermarket," she added.
She said she had not heard of Carr before arriving in Britain and was now planning to leave the country early.
Chief Superintendent Steve Loxley of North Staffordshire police said he feared Ms Carraro would become subject to more victimisation.
He called upon members of the public to halt their action against her.
Carr served 21 months in prison for lying on behalf of Huntley at the time he killed the 10-year-olds.

Same happened in Portsmouth when they attacked a house belonging to a paediatrician...
People can get more information than they have the brains to process. I could understand mob rule and mass hysteria in Napoleonic times when the illiterate peasant thought every stranger was a French spy, but maybe chavdom and the baying media are making it resurface.

Can't see the scope for confusion really.
Its why on the whole I'm against mob-justice. Its too easy to fool the 'mob' and rile up an attack against someone innocent.
Edited to add : bugger they seem to have changed the image since I posted it. She doesn't look that much like her really

Not sure this is funny at all. The mob vigilanteism encouraged by the News of the World nearly resulted in a paediatrician being publically lynched.
It just shows that underneath the veneer of civilisation, many people need little encouragement to revert to being mindless thugs and persecutors.

I was laughing at the total lack of brain power of your average man in the street.
Which also isn't funny when you consider that it is the same brain dead trash that will elect the next government. (And have elected the current one).

Which is why I find their current poster campaign so bloody offensive. Every single thing they complain about, they did first.

I do remember the tories. I made lots of money during their spell in power and can't wait for them to come back.
Sadly though, that was one of the big problems of their tenure - the dissolution of society and the "greed is good" mentality, and screw anyone else.
This sowed the seeds of many of the social problems we face today.

Completely correct, jagophile. Each time they're in power, the Conservatives are basically trying to sort out the mess left by the preceeding Labour Party.
The reason people feel the need to meet out their own misguided "justice" is because justice was not seen to be done in the first place by the authorities. If Carr had swung, there would be none of these attacks.
The reason people are stupid enough to attack paediatricians is because they have been let down by socialist inspired education policies that abhor discipline and celebrate mediocrity. The country has been completely "dumbed down" since the introduction of lowest-common denominator comprehensive schools and if you doubt what I say watch an old edition of Ask the Family (if you can find one), then watch the new series being broadcast this week.

I think Maxine Carr's sentence was in the circumstances unduly lenient. She got three and half years for telling lies. She served 21 months. Two little girls died.
Geoffrey Archer was convicted of the same offence and got 4 years for telling lies. No one died.
Had Maxine Carr been sentenced to 10years and served 7
then perhaps that may have been just.

I would have to disagree perjury is the same offence whatever the crime that has been committed-her lying did not create the situation that killed the two girls it was after the fact.

I'm in no way defending her but please have all the facts before casting the first stone. She gave an alibi as she was convinced huntley was innocent as most would for their wife or husband etc. As soon as she thought or was made aware that this was not the case she turned evidence against him.

I heard about a chap in the states who was fired for suggesting his college took a more pedagogical approach to things.
Since this was the land of the free, his solicitor did extract large amounts of cash for the lack of vocabulary.
