On a stroll from Bicester to Wycombe yesterday morning I managed to get flashed at 3 threee people I was overtaking. Obviously they were blind and deaf. It does worry me as I like the person I'm overtaking to know I'm there. In fact you're supposed to hoot your horn at them to warn them of your presence but that is seen as agressive by many, so I just change down a gear and let them hear the engine.

Anyway, to the point - I hit a new high yesterday - I passed a grey Nissan Sunny with an old couple in it at the end of a 4 car overtake, well executed, nobody disturbed etc. Sunny Grandpa flashes his lights, and at the same time his left indicator comes on and he washes his windscreen. I nearly laughed myself off the road

Near the Stelvio Pass last summer. Back road to Bormio from the South East - very, er, narrow and windey. Fun.

I got flashed today by some dope who was causing his very own traffic jam. I was at the back of a queue of about 5 cars, got to a long straight (downhill!) with good visibility, nothing approaching so myself and another car began overtaking. Got right past everything back on the left hand side of the road and carried on driving for a few hundred yards. Then the guy approaching flashed like a maniac signalling for us to slow down and shaking his fists! There were no cameras/plod/obstructions further down the road!

Why do people do it??

Having researched this matter for much time I can tell you it's because they are tedious old cnuts for whom excitement is two sugars in their tea.

Not always ya know...

I was in a Mini Cab from Central London out to the burbs in the Early hours recently and the guy pretty much kept to all the speed limits and seemed to be a normal driver, but he flashed everyone that passed him!

I finally asked him why he was flashing everyone and he said he did it to let them know they were safely passed and could pull back in!

And no we are not talking about trucks on motorways here...

I had a lad in a Pug 206 GTi following so close I couldn't see the bottom of the windscreen, he was thrupping the top of his steering wheel, but from my vantage point it looked like he was tapping on the ducktail part of the tailgate, his other hand was resting his head at a 45deg angle against the window- he looked pretty contented at 100mph, till I flashed the brake lights...

Sounds like the woman behind me on the A50 overtaking a line of HGVs (D/C way). I was clipping a long at ~xxxmph and she was about 8 feet off my rear bumper (i couldn't see her bonnet) Just to make it more exciting she was holding her mobile phone in front of her face so she could concentrate on texting I pulled in and she went past me at ~115-120mph still writing a text message on her phone!!
