Less of the we-I have thought for the last few months that Labour will get in again.

Pre-election polls commonly underestimate the COnservative share of the vote on the day, has been 8% out. Also one or two of the big pollsters are staunch Labour supporters, briefing BLiar. Who knows, but a lot of folk are fed up with Tiny and his muppets.

Exactly - it has been clear for some time that they will get back in again - a naive/blinkered view to think he won't, despite some misguided optimism on this site.

We need a decent alternative - unfortunately the other parties have singulalry failed to provide these and it is not a situation I can see changing over the next few months, which is a sad thing

I am from a working class family and never thought I would vote anything else, but there is no way I am voting for this bunch of money grabbing to55ers

I'm sick of being persecuted because I work and drive a car.

I notice they have a trial running for road pricing in North Yorks somewhere, and they Times said yesterday that they are looking at £1.40 a mile at peak rates!!!

I think I might sell up and pack work in. They're bound to give me a house and loads of money to bring the kids up.

Maybe not:I forgot that I have lived here too long and paid taxes.

I saw something the other day where somebody talked about having to reach certain standards at school to qualify for benefits, to try and encourage(force!) some of those that do not try and don't care. I'd vote for that and limits on immigration at the drop of a hat!!!

I think this fox hunting thing will motivate quite a few to vote and the students should be voting for someone other than labour on principal.

Will it be enough though? Almost certaintly not unfortunately.

Within another 5 years of Labour government, I wonder what part of our society will finally implode under the strain? Pensions? The middle classes? Law and order? Something has to give under the pressure.

But people were saying this under the 90s under the Tories - recession; interest rates; sleaze etc.

Interesting the biggest swing to the Tories since 2001 has been among Working class voters a swing of 8%.

While in contrast there has been a swing to Labour among non-manual workers (perhaps connected with the 1/2 million rise in public sector employment)

Perhaps we are moving to a more American system of voting, based on 'values' rather than class and income.

Too early to tell I am afraid. Polls this soon arent going to say much at all. Unfortunately the whole election this year is some sort of "sound-bite" issues / policies affair. As a result we dont really know what is going to happen.

It wont be a case of who wins, but more of a case of who looses.... shame that British politics has dropped to such an all time low....

Oh I don't know-Labour have become more sensible and moved toward the centre-the fact that there is now less gap between the parties,and that therefore politics is more 'boring' should be considered the maturing of British politics not that it is low.

I have no doubt Labour will win again. Don't particularly like it but there isn't a decent alternative at present. Added to that there is a whole generation of people who will never ever vote tory, me included - I just could never live with myself. That is compounded by having Howard in charge who was the architect of the poll tax...!

IMO This is the Tory's best chance of getting in, they need to play the small government/less state interference etc etc card better than they have been doing. I don't imagine that they will get in but they will severly shrink Labour's majority and that has to be good for all of us, democracy fails when you have an elected dictatorship who can do whatever they want.

So you don't particularly like driving and you enjoy paying tax and you don't mind giving it to people who've never paid anything into the system and you like being mugged/burgled by chavs whilst not being allowed to defend yourself and you don't mind having a third world health service and transport system and you're happy to have an 'everybody wins' education system whilst many still can't read/write properly are you???

I could go on but my blood pressure wouldn't stand it!

It's what i've been saying-the irony is they will become their old rivals of the 19th century the old Liberal party.

It is only by embracing classical Liberalism on social, as well as economic issues, will the Tories once again become the natural party of goverment.

How else do explain the Labour party dismantling an education system which was the envy of the world and replacing it with one which is now producing the some of the worst educated children in the developed world?

The British Revolution - Taking 100 years longer than everyone else's but looks like getting there in the end.

I am sorry but I do not believe this at all. I am 36 and for as long as I can remember, state education in this country has been in decline and bemoaned, regardless of who is in power. And that goes for the NHS too. The knee jerk blaming of the current govt for everything makes a lot of these discussions decline into farce and somewhere to the far right of the Daily Mail
