ive been looking at a lot of quotes recently and noticed that it asks if you have had any convictions in the past 5 years on most insurance sites i have looked at, what i wanted to know was that if i had a gotten a standard speeding ticket for 60 quid, would i need to declare this when getting a quote?

i only ask because i have heard that it doesnt matter, and that you dont need to tell them, but was unsure as i have seen a lot asking for the details

thanks

Erm, yeah you need to declare an SP30 i believe (3 points + £60 fine) which is the standard "A bit but not much" over the limit penalty.

Total bugger, especially when you're 19

Yes, you have to tell them.. they will want the code too (SP30, SP40, SP50) and it will probably add about 5% to the premium.

Its not quite a standard "A bit but not much" over the limit penalty.. an SP30 is exceeding a 30 mph limit (by no specified margin), SP40 is (IIRC) exceeding a 40mph-NSL limit, and SP50 is for exceeding 70 on a motorway (again no specific margin although for over 100 mph you'll be off to court)

Cheers
Matt

Hi,

How much do the premiums go up if you have 6 points? 10% rise if getting 3 points is about 5%?

There are all sorts of wierd formulas it seems.. In my experience it will go up by more than 10% as you are a "persistent offender"

Don't think that's correct as I got 3 points, £60 fine and an SP30 for doing 73mph in a 50mph zone.

From the DVLA web site...

Speed Limits

SP10 Exceeding goods vehicle speed limits.
SP20 Exceeding speed limit for type of vehicle (excluding goods or passenger vehicles)
SP30 Exceeding statutory speed limit on a public road.
SP40 Exceeding passenger vehicle speed limit.
SP50 Exceeding speed limit on a motorway.
SP60 Undefined speed limit offence.

Does that make it any clearer?!?

Hence my IIRC on the SP40 (I wasn't sure, having never had any points ).. Woody has cleared it up now though

I've got an SP10!

Feckin basket ANPR scamera in Cameraberland...
OK, so I was doing 85 in a 60 (but my van is restricted to 50 on SC roads), technically a bit naughty, but even so...
