Crikey, that's tough. They all link together. Steam power = industrial revolution and railways, the internal combustion engine = cars and planes, computers = internet. I can't pick one.

Wouldn't Yahoo be a better choice than Google here? It was the pioneer Search Engine/Directory, created over 4 years before Google.

True it was first but it was thick and easily friggable.

Google is the universal answer machine and I dont think we've had one of them before.

I should havve thought understanding of electricity, or even more specifically electric light, was the biggest contributor to progress. What could we do without it?

Don't get me wrong, I love Google - I make most of my living through it and agree that it's a far superior engine, I just don't know whether something which is a slick improvement of someone else's idea could be hailed 'most significant technological innovation'

I vote for the internet as a whole.
