A colleague of mine found out today that he has a mouse living in his car

He brought out his sandwich nicely wrapped in foil, in a sandwich bag, in a plastic bag, from the boot of his car, to find that something had nibbled through all the layers, and had munched through the corner of his cheese and pickle extravaganza.

He’s not amused. The only explanation is that he took a load of rubbish to the tip yesterday, and somehow the little blighter must have got into his boot. Now said mouse has a free reign somewhere in a brand new Honda Accord.

So how to get it out? Cheese? What damage can it cause? It’s certainly going to be alive for a while, seeing as it’s just had the mouse-equivalent of a 3-course meal!

When we had a mouse in our house, he was very partial to chocolate. Even woke us up one night licking the chocolate off a biscuit wrapper that Lorraine had dropped by the bed.

Mice can chew holes in almost anything - so watch out for seat covers and anything plastic - which includes electrical insulation.... ulp...

A guy here had the same problem in his Fiat Coupé - some handy (and not so handy hints) on this thread...

Just a thought then. Park it up with the doors and boot open somewhere quirt. Perhaps even put some bricks or wood etc by the doors to effect easy exit. Don’t leave anything eatable near. It will probably bugger off some to find food.

I could lend you a pair of Terriers, they will get it out, I could not accept liability for any consequential damage however

Just a thought.
If a mouse breathed helium would it squeak ultrasonically like a bat ?

My hound managed to catch a mouse only yesterday.
The mouse squeaked so the stupid mutt let the thing go.

This is what the massive came up with when i had this problem. Please bear in mind I was a very newbie then and didn't know the warped from the merely mad!

In the end said mouse was removed by use of cheese and a mouse trap after a few nights. Poor little bu@@er, still he should have stayed in the field.

Rodents love nuts; peanuts, pecans, etc. They are kin to squirrels BTW. Put a cracked nut on a mouse trap on the floor overnight and SNAP! Using nuts is better for the closed car as well; nuts don't smell like cheese (don't any of you even go there!).

Get one of those humane traps and put some dog food in the end. They love the stuff. Then you get the chance to see the mouse and drop him off in the nearest wooded area to where you live.

Close all the doors / windows and set of a co2 fire exstinguisher inside the car. Make sure you are not in there as you will suffocate.

Be prepared for a nasty smell within a couple of days.

Alternatively get some long toasting forks some crumpets and wait for the inevitable car fire coming your way soon as the little blighter munches his way through the loom insulation.

Ha ha, the guy on the forum had a similar idea..

Other forum guy said:

Take a long length of hose from the exhaust pipe and feed through passenger window.

run engine for 30 minutes (do not sit in car)

mouse problem solved.

Once it starts to smell follow your nose to the source of the problem and remove waste.

another way will be to stop dropping food ont he floor you scruffy get. if there is nothing to eat it will leave the area. lol mouse problems i thought it was to do with your incar computer problems.

ps the above is a joke i like mice

Here in the States at least you can buy a "tin cat" which is a clockwork powered live catch trap, it can catch more than one mouse and you probably have more than one. If you resort to a simple cheap trap put something under it to catch any blood or other fluids.

Don't go with poison since the bugger will crawl up onto your heater core to die.

Softheartedness is not in order here. Mice, ahem, relieve themselves in your car and for some reason really gravitate to the dash. They can do serious damange and the smell is not too pleasant. Don't keep food in the car overnight, put traps around it, if you have a garage consider keeping a cat on your property, you can rescue one for a pittence, and he/she will kill a lot of mice. For an urban environment this may not be practical.

Finally there are ultrasonic/sonic systems that create a racket that discorages mice that you can check out.

Look at www.bugspray.com, from my old hometown of Atlanta, GA. They may even ship overseas if you can't find what you need locally.

But, again, ruthlessness is the order of the day when dealing with rodents. As indeed it is with anyone who p*@@es on my heater core!!

Found two last week in the boot of a car I have off the road.

Shot them both with a CO2 pistol without damaging the car.

No use luring them out...they got in there once, so know how to do it again....
