Tory manifesto - unfortunately they're unelectable

I read the Tory manifesto (link following) and it's full of negative character campaigning and short on specifics. It taks about cutting civil service costs within one month of coming to office. Contains no infomation about Tax. Quite honestly, though I'd love them to win, I don't think they have a chance!

Lately the Tories have come across to me as some sort of dodgy Del Boy type Street trader....
“E-r missus here’s a policy for ya. Crime we’ll sort the old crime out alright…..
No? ok then ok…….. immigration then?? Tell ya what. What if we make the buggers have a health check and a wash before we let em in………..
Tax cuts……. I’ve got some lovely tax cuts. 35billion how about that and and we’ll still spend more on public services. Can’t say fairer than that now can I?
And and we’ll chuck in discount for pensioners council tax. No extra charge. Cor blimy Mrs how do we do it?
What about you sir. Them speed cameras look nasty to me. Can’t promise anything now sir… but you catch my drift….. Hunting ban!! Tell you what you give us a really big majority and we’ll see what we can do…(wink wink)
Mind you New Labour are only one step up. More like the old fashion Kleen-easy Man.
Knock knock… Good morning madam. How are you? Let me show you what I’ve got in my case today..won’t take long..now I bet you’ll like this…it’s a lovely Health Service..now this is very expensive but just think of the piece of mind it’ll bring you in the years to come…. How’s you family getting along then?.. You know what your kids need don’t you?..what they need is a good education. I know the old one we sold you is not much good now but we are about to launch a new one next after the next election all I need is a vote as a deposit and then we’ll send the bill later on..no need to worry about that now….
Ah hello sir I was just talking to your lovely wife….I know I know she does spend a fair bit with us..but it’s all good stuff… what’s that?? You weren’t very impressed with the Iraq thing last year… Well I can understand that..Well to tell the truth it was sort of dump on us by our parent company and we just had to sell it on, to please them.. but we are more independent now and I don’t think we’ll have any more of them….for a while.
The Lib Dems in comparison are a kind of tactical voters Bring and Buy sale.
You hope to off load some old junk party but feel obliged to buy something that you don’t really want in return.

Howard does not want to win this election because he knows the forthcoming recession will destroy Labour for ever and Blair will resign at the end of 2006. Brown will take over and lose the election of 2007 or 8. Whatever happens if you like cars and liberty none of these bastards are electable

That’s an interesting point.
All things considered the last few years have seen a steady economy with low inflation and low interest rates and a reasonable lever of employment. Now we could argue all day as to who or what is reason for this stability but sure as eggs is eggs it won’t last.
So like a hot potato the party in government in power when things go tits up are going to get it in the neck. If it’s labour it will be because of sustained spending policies or some such reason. Naturally if the Tories find themselves in power the reasoning will be that everything was ok until you got in.
The way both parties have been acting lately one might be forgiver that they don’t want to be elected. Do you think they know something we don’t?

Howard KNOWS he isn't going to win this election. Everyone connected to the Tories I've spoken to doesn't think they ahve a cats chance in hell. Admittedly thats ot a lot of people and they're not massively influential, but they are well informed...

Maybe as a middle of the road social democrat party - remember the original Labour party was founded out of poverty - a recession isn't going to reduce the principle drivers for the existence of the Labour movement at all.

Well we are far sighted I'll give you that! However I really don't see who in the Tory party could challenge Brown for dynamism or charisma... Which is saying rather a lot if you think about it!!
