I fnd it a real struggle getting up for work in the darkness. When I'm off work (as I am this week) I wake up with the sunlight no problems.

I've heard of alarm clocks that slowly light up before going off to make you think the suns come up.

Has anybody ever tried these? Any good? And any ideas where I can get one?

1/ Get a loud alarm clock.

2/ Put it on the other side of the room.

3/ Swear violently as you have to get up to switch it off.

4/ See? You're up and awake.

1) Get a really, really loud alarm clock.

2) Put it in a different room.

3) Get out of bed, go into the other room, cancel the alarm, and get back into bed without having actually woken up.

That's how it goes for me...

Apparantly seen on sy news:

ULTIMATE ALARM CLOCK

It's the ultimate early morning alarm call for those too tired or lazy to get out of bed.

Scientists have built an intelligent alarm clock that runs and hides after the snooze button is pressed so that the sleeper has to get out of bed to find it in the bedroom to turn it off again.

The 'Clocky' clock does not give the restless a five minute break and then an opportunity to turn it off again for another five minutes by using the snooze button repeatedly.

Instead it zooms into action.

It rolls off the bedside table and uses its wheels drive off and find a hiding place somewhere in the room.

It is also programmed to go to a different hiding place each time it is used so there would be no chance of throwing a pillow at it to cover it up.

Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, in Boston, also claim that their invention will motivate the worst sleep-in offenders whose brain will be forced to become awake and alert.

1. Use a loud alarm clock, my phone (which beebs and vibrates annoyingly on the table) and set my radio alarm to come on at an ASBO-inducing volume.
2. Place one of them on the other side of the room.
3. Get out of bed, collect alarm from other side of room and hit snooze (or turn it off, because I know I'm wide awake now because I just walked to the other side of the room...), hit snooze on phone, turn radio down as soon as it wakes me because it's really rather loud for this time in the morning.
4. Leap out of bed like Hugh Grant in the opening scene of Four Weddings and rush around the house saying: "F*ck, , , , bugger, ..."
5. Just make it to work at 8:59. Yet again.

Maybe I should try going to bed earlier...

Tried that!

I moved the alarm because I was hitting the sleep button in my sleep. I now get up, walk over to the other side of the room and hit the sleep button, still asleep.

A simple fix is a time switch on the socket where you lug the bedside light - set it to come on x minutes before the alarm.

Just a clock radio set to a local SpazFM station should do the trick. Just make sure you put it out of sight so you can't physically through anything at it.

You gotta admire MIT, Their student's idea of a practical joke includes making lifts suddenly start talking, transforming lobbys into cathedrals with pipe organs and putting campus police cars on the roof, complete with doughnuts.

You think I'm kidding. When I started, I used to have a doorbell transformer, and one of those really lairy doorbells, with a steel dome and an electromagnetic hammer.

They used to wear out on me. I could only get about a month before I had to take it apart and re-adjust it.

Firebells are much more reliable.
