who cares about bloody tescos
Discussion
is anyone other than shareholders, actually interested in tesco's 2billion squillion profits
Why is it headline news?
The news people seem to get really excited about which supermarket is top of the pops.
As far as im concerned, I hope they go bust.
They are helping to destroy small shops and businesses with their relentless determination to sell everything known to man...from cucumbers to arsehole insurance.
The most hateful of the lot is Spasda (or chavda).

Ted summed it up quite well and my Mrs worked for them for over ten years and they were a reasonable company to work for.

Put all your eggs in one or two baskets and you'll end up with one choice of very expensive egg.
Isn't that the point though? Put all your eggs in one basket and they'll be cheaper.
Unfortunately they operate in a manner that's hard to fault.
Our local 'convenience' store was replaced with a Tesco Metro place last year. The dirty store with no fresh produce and a limited range of products has gone and been replaced with a clean, bright store with lots of choice. Much as I'd like to see the small guys compete, Tescos just do it better.
If the previous store stocked the same items and presented themselves as well as Tescos do then they'd have got our business. It's not all about price.
I pretty much agree with the above line of thinking and that our local town grocer could not compete in freshness as he didn't have the automated logistics behind it that Tesco does. You also have to remember that 20 years ago Tesco was a dirty word and J Sainsburys' was the place to shop of choice.

If people still bought from local shops then there wouldn't be a problem, tesco and co are just providing for the demand.
Wal-Mart and Target here are the same way, as far as driving out smaller competitors. Although, Wal-Mart seems to be slightly dirtier, less organized, stock-piled-up-in-places kind of store. After not finding what you need while walking on the sticky floor, you then have to wait half a lifetime to pay for your stuff. I've actually shopped in slightly more expensive stores just because the advantage of being able to find something and get through the checkout in a reasonable amount of time is worth the extra $.
Wal-Mart was listed top in the Forbes 2000 in sales.
