Maybe I'm blind (a lot of people say I am), but i've not seen any Mountain Biking topics and was wondering how many PH'ers have an interest here?

OK, fair to say push bikes are lacking an engine but when I went last week to the Look Out in Bracknell, I had an awesome time which prompted me to buy a Kona Cinder Cone which will arrive tomorrow evening (hopefully).

I'm wondering if anyone lives around the Bracknell area and is up for a pedal around the Look Out area?

I'm a complete novice so I can't do anything clever but I'm up for trying a few crazy things out but I do like avoiding boggy areas at all costs after going out with Ginge and seeing him pelt it down a hill and attempt to "skim" over the water.

Instead, his front wheel dug into the mud and off he went like a rocket. Still has me laughing now! Top stuff!

Anyhow. Back to the point. Anyone up for a bit of a ramble about the area and any tips and ideas should I keep in mind as a beginner to any of you more experienced riders out there?

That would make two very unfit PH'ers. Hence the bike! I've no time to go to the gym at the moment and with all this great weather, I'd rather be outside too.

I once started a mountain biking thread a while back.
I ride a Specialized Rockhopper disk with a few mods.
Do a 20 mile ride each Sunday which consists of about 5 miles of hard off road and the rest is up and down some seriously steep hills. Great fun.
I'll admit though, I'm useless at the down hill stuff though. I haven't got the bottle.

Edited to add. Sorry, just noticed you was interested in cyclists around the Bracknell area. I cycle around the Clent hills in the Halesowen area.

Hmmm.....maybe I should start a PH gathering.

The Unfit MTB PH society aka, "UMPHS"

If you wish to become an UMPHS member, please apply on this topic and express your interest to meet up one weekend around Berkshire for a grueling cycle and a refreshing and rehydrating beer afterwards.

Although I live in Cambs the S. Downs are some of my fave riding areas so I'd be happy for any excuse for a spin out, pref on a Saturday though.
I used to race in the Sports/expert class but that was many years ago and I'm now seriously unfit, attending every Malverns race/piss up till the final one in 98?. Women and Uni have a bad habit of taking away your good habits.
Currently ride a 5 year old Stumpie FSR Comp.

One rule though - NO LYCRA.
It used to look good on me when I was fit, but with a fat butt and large gut hanging out its not the most flattering of clothing!

Might hold you to that. Ginge has buggered off to Uni and my other mates are "studying" for exams. What's that all about!?

In fear of this thread sounding like a new members introduction at an AA meet:

"Hi, my names Mark and I ride the ridgeway on a Whyte PRST-4 Superbike"

:hugging and back slapping:

Ah the Zaskar! - one of the most bombproof bikes I've ever owned. And I should know having snapped the following in my time riding-
GT Psyclone
Kona Hei Hei titanium
4 Trek OCLV's
Roberts (Dogs Bollox) Custom

Think I may have been a little hard on my equipment back then.....

I'd be up for that in a few weeks time, have been there a few times now. Maybe we could organise a Sunday meet?

Must agree with some points already made though, I am a novice, very unfit and definately NO lycra.

Well I'm going to look seriously out of place on my budget equipment

But I reckon I' won't be last as long as there are plenty of downhills and obstacles

Can't do this weeekned or next, 'cause I'm doing proper engine stuff

I ride a specialized hardrock comp (bottom end of their range), but it seems to have taken it's abuse quite well. Like the idea of a meet, depending on how far it is.

I ride an old Heinz of an MTB, set up for the road ATM as I've nowhere safe to keep my decent road bike.
I will be moving to Crowthorne (not far from Bracknell) in the summer though, so setting it back to off-road and exploring sounds like a good idea...

The Zaskar was a design classi. Great frame.

I once sheared a Marin Rift Zone in half while testing for a magazine. Hit a tree at about 30-40mph. That one *hurt*.

Still own my 1994 Marin Muirwoods. The frame and front mech are the only original things about it.

Not ridden properly for a couple of years now. Real life seems to get in the way.
