Squirrel 1-0 My wife

After several weeks of planning, today my wife's high security bird feeder was raided. The thinness of the string has been worrying the squirrels for a while and no-one can be sure how this one managed it.

There was no sign of a ladder or friends forming a pyramid.....did he climb or jump from the adjacent trees???

I think there was a squirrel that worked something similar out on one of the Bill Oddie programs, it learnt to balance while walking along the line.

Get a decent air rifle and then see if the tree rats can make it to the feeder...........

BBC had a program a few years back to test squirrel's ingenuity; culminating in a multi-stage (12+ IIRC) assault course to get the nuts. Took them two weeks but they did it. It was quite amazing what the little furry blighters are capable of to get food.

Pah, amateurs.

One of my mates has to have steel braided lines to stop the pesky tree rats from raiding the nuts/washing line falling in the mud.

They also come into the house and attack the cats!

one time my mother put vaseline on the pole were our birdfeeder was hanging from as an anti squirrel method but the squirrels got revenge on her by wiping their vaseline covered paws all over the grass and rocks in her garden.

one of my friends father has a bird feeder in the middle of his lawn (so squirrels can't land on it from trees) hung from the top of a metal post... which is greased with vaseline. The squirrels try to climb it but get half way up and slide back down again it's really funny.
