I seem to recall a past thread about Montreal, which should have a few ideas. However I'd recommend the student area (where all the clubs, etc are, a few of which have been known to have wet t-shirt/no t-shirt nights apparently). There are some really nice bars too though.
For the daytime, it's a good town to walk around - I moseyed down from the bar/club district in which I was staying, right down to the island where the F1 is held. There's an old-school funfair there too
As for shopping, near McGill there are some massive malls. I found shoes to be much cheaper At the risk of sounding like a girl

. head down to the 'Rue St Catherine'......the bar called Winston Churchill's is quite good , also on the same road is a rather large indoor fast food market that has foods from all over the world 
Go to the top of the 'Mont' for spectacular views across city.
near to the airport (Mirabel ,i think) there's a cracking self-serve chinese buffet restaurant
later on visit 'Wanda's' lap dancing bar.

yes,really.......most people are bi-lingual but there a quite a few that are 'more blue than red' in reference to the national flag of Quebec (blue) and that of Canada (red ,obviously)
all street signs are in french first ,english second.....some are 'more french than the french' and do not like references to 'agincourt' and the like........i found that out when taking the piss out of one of my course instructors!
I stayed there for 5 weeks ,it's a very cosmopolitan place though and very easy to deal with.
