As a very general rule of thumb work on the premise each window should cost about £300.00 fitted compare that to your qoute, inevitably this company sells the best windows but ultimately there all plastic and no doubt you like me dont like painting, i found by asking my neighbours about there windows they were very keen to tell me if they were good or bad companies who fitted them so maybe check out a few adjoining houses etc.

Fit then yourself its cheeper and you get a good finnish instead of someone throwing them in on a price!

If you are looking for a good specification and want to know the ins and outs of materials and construction methods etc, then mail me and I will talk you through what to look out for. I can help you compare specification and could save you a lot of money.
If you just want something cheap & cheerfull, you cant really go wrong. Just shop the planet for the cheapest quote, but make sure they arent fitted by muppets. The fit is usually where all the problems occur with budget windows.
Be wary of the Nationals who will start high and then come down in price, often less than half of what they started at. Even at the bottom price it will still be a really rubbish specification.
Best bet is to go to a local window company who runs a small but well established operation, who doesnt make the frames themselves but buys the windows in from another bigger local supplier. Usually these folks can often undercut the people they actually buy the windows from. So you can get company 'A's windows from company 'B' but cheaper and with a better fitting standard. As an example, one of the biggest window companys in Derby who has a good reputation (but actually sells a budget product for mid-range money...nice business!!!) also sells to the trade, and all these one-man bands are able to sell the customer the same stuff for less.
The really cheap National companies can be a nightmare, despite being cheap, having interest free credit and BOGOF. They use all sorts of muppet sub-contracters (even pikeys) to do the fitting. And the product is truly shite.
Do not let anyone kid you that all windows are the same. A Proton Wirra is not the same as a BMW 5 series. Nearly all budget windows are the equivalent of a Proton Wirra or a Kia Rio.
