Got home tonight and found that my 2 year old has attacked my office with a marker pen...my desk is covered in scribble, I've pen marks on my screens, and important documentation has been disfigured, what do I do?

a) Get him up in the morning, show him what he's done and smack his ass (apparently illegal nowadays)

b) Shun him and go for the psycological torture approach (probably against his human rights)

c) Pretend it never happened (like this is an option!)

Any other options available to me here?

Encourage him to draw with a marker pen on big sheets of paper, and tell him hes been very naughty.

Smacking won't do any good, you have to catch him in the act. If he wants to play with a pen, let him play where he'll do no harm.

Apparently that's not allowed anymore either... According to my sister and her kids school you should never call a kid naughty. And you should never tell them they are being badly behaved, you should ask them if they think they are being badly behaved

If my neice is playing up she is asked
"Are you being Mischeavous"?! It's starting to annoy her now she is 28

Who left the marker pen within reach of a 2 year old? Punish then because they should have known better than to leave it laying around. If it was you then I suggest banning yourself from your favourite gadgets for a month.

IMHO

Hmmm, Had a word with him, if I'd have done likewise when I was a kid, I'd have been sore for a week. Kids these days, they get it far too easy. If he ever does it again, sod the law, he's in for some backside percushion adjustment! Luckily he hadn't worked his way round to scribbling all over my pacenotes and maps which I'd been working on with the said pens.

I've had the same problem for some time. My now 4 yr old was somehow drawn to my office area finding it an amazing adventure. He has destroyed a various keyboards with the application of juice or milk. Used important documents as drawing paper and given Micheal Angelo a run for his money using the wall instead of a ceiling.
I made sure he was aware of what he was being punished for as it can be confusing for the little fella as his mind races on at ten time the national speed limit. If too much time has passed between incident and actions I usually go for the Daddy's upset with you routine whilst showing him the carnage. The big problem is the little kids love to pretend being Daddy. The office will become boring to them after a while but until then we had to buy more lockable cupboards and go through the tedious task of making sure everything was secured out of the reach of little grubby hands.

Kids don't ya just love em

My friend's contribution to modern parenting was to teach his two-year-old daughter to respond to the question "Are you being naughty?" with "No, I'm misunderstood!".

I'm a firm believer in corporal punishment-but at 2 they are not really old enough to understand what they are doing.

So I would say however left them unsupervised with a marker pen is at fault.

He's been on the Planet 2 years; you expect him to understand how important your important paperwork is?. Can understand your anger, but don’t take it out on him with violence, a gentler, but consistent admonishment should suffice. And fit a lock to your office...

the child was only copying his dad, at work in the office - spend some more time with him and cultivate his artistic abilities so he can express himself, who knows - he may end up desiging super cars.
