Flea's

Cats got flea's and is scratching fur out from various places.

Best options such as powder/collar or what do you recommend?

killing the cat is not an option, before you bother typing it

Theres a powder that you dissolve in water and then dunk the animal in thats very effective but you have the obvious cat/water interface problem.

Algan or similar.

Nuvan Top isnt bad for an aerosol.

Bet there are loads of funky electronic solutions these days though.

Frontline without a doubt.

Fairly pricey from the vets, but dab it on the back of their necks and it lasts ages. Not distressing for the animal, very convenient, and the best you're going to get.

How about the Drontal drops which you put on the scruff of the neck. I used them for my dog but haven't bothered for several years as he doesn't get to go anywhere that he can get them.
There was a scare a few years ago about one make which could kill the animal it was put on (it is pesticide after all) but the manufacturer withdrew it from the market.

we use Advantage
very good, easy to apply (spot on the back of the neck), doesn't upset them in anyway and it works.

Yerp - frontline is the de-flea-er of choice in the Rotty household. We did try the cheapo stuff from Wilko's but it wasn't a patch on frontline. Our vets will do a bit of a discount for a bulk buy - I buy 6 months worth at a time. In the colder months it gets reapplied every 5/6 weeks, but in the warm weather(as if!) every 4/5 weeks.

Yet another vote for frontline, vet charges about £15/ 3 months treatment IIRC, you still need to treat the furniture if you already have fleas though.

Frontline, apply it every month. It ain't cheap, but it does an excellent job.

You may have fleas in the house now. Best to vacuum all carpets, wash all towels and bedsheets, and kill any fleas you find with extreme prejudice!

I believe the council offer a fumigation service to deal with fleas.

I had a cat years and years ago that managed to infest my house, I think they sorted it for something iro £25.

No need for that, get some sulphur, burn a little pile of it in every room and go out for the day.

Get frontline for the cats, and some bug bombs from the pet shop. Frontline the cats, lock the cats out. Hoover the house then bug bomb it. Leave the house for a few hours empty, then reenter and hoover it again. Scorched earth.

The frontline stuff is top stuff. Better than any flea collars

You can get some very effective (expensive) stuff from your vets which you can use to treat the cat and the house. Make sure you do the whole house otherwise moggy will be crawling in fleas within a couple of weeks.
