Just bought a puppy...

Hi, last night we bought a 9 week old puppy from a girl I went to school with. It's been about 14-15 years since we've had a puppy, so a bit out of practice (we still have the 'old' puppy, now rather senile, slow, really old and lazy)- has anyone got any tips or advice or just banter to share? I've forgotten how long 'toilet training' takes- any ideas for a fairly sharp pup?
Lets have picture then Gaz. We've just taken out options on another puppy too.
We're getting a puppy in about a months time.
We used to have a Golden Retriever but we had to have him put down about 2 years ago
He was 14 and a half.
We recently had to have our cross Collie put down aswell
He was 14.
We have managed to find the person we originally got our Retriever from in 1987!! and she has 2 dogs which have just had puppies
She is a top breed judge for Golden Retrievers and has about 7 of her own. We went up and had a look on Sunday and we should be getting one next month. My Dad took some photo's of them which were quite popular with the girls at work
It is a long time since we had a puppy around so it should be fun.

Ah he's a cute dog!
As for toilet training, best thing to do is have lots of old newspaper handy. Whenever it looks like it needs to GO, pick the dog up and put it on it. It will soon associate the paper with toilet. Then after a while put the paper in a room he can mess in on the floor, again putting him on the paper when he needs pee pee etc. Gradually work up to the back door (if he is gonna be going in back garden) and then out the back door still with the newspaper. Then won day he should just knock the back door to go to toilet.
every time he goes on the paper, its very important to praise the dog, if he gets it wrong NEVER scould the dog, just pick him up and put him on paper then praise him again.
Thats all we did with our dog and she never does anything in the house (apart from throwing up ocassionally)
Good luck, he is cute.
