Anyone here particularly good with cards?

If there was a local magic club to join, Id probably sign up Not aiming for hollywood, but being able to genuinely wow and impress clients/kids/guests/friends at dinner parties etc would be cool. I cant say Ive ever met anyone who has been able to do more than one card trick, usually very badly at that.

Not the same, but a mate went on a training course and was taught the basics of juggling (don't you just love these American type seminars ) and he liked it so much he bought a set of cheap balls from Ikea and is practicing. It's actually very impressive to see your mate half pissed and able to juggle!

Bob, there is a magic shop in Clerkenwell, East London.

The only way I can describe it is out of Turnmills (nightclub) turn right and its the last shop in a row of shops about 500 yards up the road. Red on the outside, looks like a joke shop definately isnt.

It is the shop of dreams.

Everything your magic heart can desire is available.

Basically get a very good sleight book and about 10 packs of Bicycle seconds cards (no need to spend a fortune on perfect cards, you will ruin them)

Then all you need is a mirror and a LOT of time.

Get a David Blaine magic video as well, ignore all the levitation and headless chicken shit and play the ruffles and hand movements frame by frame. Its a shame he has started doing all this endurance nonsense as he is one of the greatest sleight magicians the world has ever seen.

Used to be a croupier so could teach you how to cheat effectively at both roulette and blackjack, should you wish to come over to the dark side!

You mean InternationalMagic David blaines sleight of hand work is incredible, its so entertaining to watch. It would be nice to be even half as skilled as he is, but I wonder how many weeks, months or years of work one would need to put in, to achieve a worthwile degree of skill.

Blaine level?

About 20 years of regular (daily) practice.

I can do 'card on top' fairly convincingly but thats about it and thats taken me years.

Hmm...leaves Turnmills...possibly a little on the happy side...finds "shop of dreams"...

Are you sure you weren't just getting confused in the local Clinton's Cards?

Brown is a 'mentalist' (no I didnt make it up)

Blaine is a classic magician.

I adore the technical aspects of both. Brown though truly is at the top of his game whereas Blaine seems to have left his trade behind...

ive been studying cards for about 6 months i have a routine thats not bad,

Derren Brown by all accounts was a stunning with a pack of cards but wanted to go further and and make "pure magic"

David blaines skill lies in markettng himself mainly which he is very good at.

Well, I spent 120 quid on books and DVD's today, which will either amount to something sweet or a total waste of money. Give me... 20 years chaps I dont want to commit to anything time wise but Im going to give it a go!

Incidentally, Martin at the shop seems to know derren very well
