not if you look at the other way - finally telling someone of their secret, admitting it to the world will help the person involved.
It was said on here, I think by Gazboy, that some people simply don't have someone in their lives who they can go to with a problem. Someone who they can't simply say "help" to. If they find help by admitting to themselves and a postcard and then secretly to the world, where is the depression - they are getting help.
As for the depressing the reader, its not for us specifically and can help some people by saying "there is someone else suffering the same"

edited to add: i hope i didn't sound flippant, i meant no disrespect. i just really feel for those poor folk (having a bit of a tough time myself at the mo, so i guess i empathized rather than sympathized). anyway, apologies if i seemed unsympathetic, it wasnt my intention.

Just an observation...
Why do these people go to such lengths to decorate their secrets?
If you wanted to tell a secret would you decorate it as these guys have?
Some sadoes might just be trying to get their "art" featured on the site!
These confessions aren't that uncommon. You probably know people that have very similar, or equally bad, issues in their lives.
I've known people blame themselves for the death of friends, confess to affairs, keep terminal illnesses a secret, blame their children for their failures in life.
Tip: be nice to people, you don't know what's eating them inside, you might make a real difference.
I'm surprised that there aren't more sexual/relationship confessions as this type of issue is fairly common.

I agreed with it because I frequently feel like that and I'm sure others do too - you lie about how you feel to keep conversations positive, and the more superlative you make it, the chances are the less realistic you're being.
