Need help on this if anyone could oblige...I have DVDs that need watching!
Basically I need to connect up my TV, DVD recorder and freeview box, preferably so I can actually watch them!
My TV only has one scart socket, but I do have one of those scart adaptors that takes 6 or so leads. DVD thing also came with white, red and yellow that go in the back of that bur, err, no where else!
I have tried loads of different combinations with the coax cables and scarts, nothing seems to work.
Now maybe I'm just having one long blonde moment (despite not being blonde), or someones trying to test me, can anyone put me out of my misery and let me know how to go about this properly, please?
p.s. yes, I have read the manual, that doesnt help me much either!

Firstly, try plugging the SCART straight from DVD player into TV and turn the player on.
Hunt on the TV remote for Ext or AV (the SCART channel will not be on one of the 'numbered' channels).
Doing this takes the multiway SCART adaptor out of the equation for a bit.
When you get a DVD picture, unplug the SCART from the TV and plug it into the multi-block adaptor. Stick the other end of this into the TV. Plug in your freeview box in the same way and BINGO (hopefully).
edit to add - don't worry about the red / white / yellow. These are for another form of connection (to an amplifier, for example) and are not needed for the equipment you have described

Ok, tried sotonS2s advice, all good apart from the fact that when the DVD is on, the picture is jumpy, not sure how to describe it but I was begginning to get a headache!
Sounds stupid but I'm not sure how to connect the coax cables up, is the ariel better going through the freeview box? (I guess it is, as theres 2 connections here, only one on the TV)
Also, will it record digital channels or just the analogue ones?

The jumpy picture is probably interference between the DVD player and Freeview box and is caused by the SCART switch block you have.
Is the DVD picture OK when the Freeview box is turned off ?
And vice versa ?
If yes to both the above, then you will have to make sure only one box is switched on at a time.
Failing that, run coax from the Freeview box and just have the DVD player connected via SCART.
A lot of these SCART multi-blocks are cr@p and you will get these problems. For a better solution, try googling for something called a 'smart' SCART switch box like the Quintro.

A DVD recorder should have a 'straight through' mode - like a video player ie when a DVD is not being played, you should be able to see a Frreview channel.
Connect a SCART between the Freeview box and the DVD SCART IN. Connect another SCART between the DVD SCART OUT. Do away with the SCART adaptor box.

I was doing ok-ish until the edit, managed to get a DVD non jumpy picture by connecting TV to scart box, then the DVD into the box. No freeview or analouge picture though
Now one problem...my DVD rec only has a scart out socket, is this a problem?

OK, what connectors are there on the back of the DVD recorder that are also on the Freeview box ?
For example, are there yellow / white / red connections on both ?
Or are there connectors marked S-Video, or Digital, or Optical, or Co-ax on both ?
What is the make & model of the DVD recorder and Freeview box ?

DVD model is Compacks DVD-101, have found this www.wwrs.compacks.com/dvd101/Digital-box.htm on it..Im assuming 'cable' is the ariel lead?
Freeview box is a Daewoo (DV3? well thats what it has on the front!) The only connections it has is the scart, the ariel and TV coaxes and the power lead.

True, Zoe, the best SCART multiway adaptors come with a remote control and you can select from each input individually (i.e. DVD, Video,Satelite, cable) etc.
The permanentely connected (cheaper versions) can give you the results you describe, try only having the device you want to watch, Switched on with this type.

My Dad managed to convince someone in his office once that AWACS planes are mobile helicopter landing pads. AFAIK he never corrected them either!
