In the Charente - Poitou region around La Rochelle and Royan.... anyone been there and found nice, quiet, non touristy, secluded beaches?

The bunkers on the ile de Ré greatly improve the view

Lovely submarine pens............also v.nice beaches all around the area.

And you've got to try the local goats cheese. They make you

I know in peak season in the main resorts its packed but I also know the longer stretches further away from resorts aren't as packed - and there's a fair few coves all along the coast.... just don't know where exactly

Been along there out of peak season and it was great (although there was some car crime in secluded car parks).
I prefer a bit further south, on the Vendee...

Sauveterre and La Suzaie. Take a surfboard if you go there. (just N of La Rochelle)

It is the area either side of La Rochelle I think, but beaches aren't my thing. I can look at them alright, but sunbathing bores me daft and I get seasick on a lilo
