Alcohol – why oh why do I do it…
Discussion
So here I am. It’s almost 3:00 am on a Monday morning and I’ve just got back from the pub. I have to be up for work at 7:00 am i.e. in four hours time. I’m going to feel sooooo s**t. I knew I had to go to work tomorrow/today but I still stayed down the pub drinking because I was enjoying myself. WTF was I thinking of? Now I am gripped by this fear of how ill I am going to feel tomorrow morning. So much so in fact that I can’t sleep – which will only make matters worse.
Am I alone in this syndrome? I’m seriously thinking of throwing a sikky tomorrow and having a lay in.
Top night out though

I quit drinking 4 years ago and one of the reasons was I hated being hung over all the time, drinking when I should have been sleeping.
Now I suffer from insomnia so I rarely get a decent nights sleep anyway, but I had a problem with alcohol so there is no going back for me and I would just as soon put a gun to my head, as the result would be the same. I'm a better person for giving it up and my life is slowly but surely turning around for the better.
sorry if I sound like an A.A. meeting, just wanted to share my experience.

do you drink kaliber? or shandy bass?
No alcohol what so ever, which means I have to be careful of which mustards I buy, nothing with wine in it, I make my own Teryaki sauce as the store bought has wine in it, Etc.
I won't try drinking any of the near Beers or de-alcoholized wines as they still have trace amounts in them. My only luxury is Rootbeer as the amount of alcohol in it is negegable.
As I said I had a problem that I would not like to revisit so I'm very careful about no alcohol what so ever.

That's fair enough mate. Respect for dealing with a problem, and having the balls to tell the world.
My girl, the one I really thought was a keeper, has just left me. I poured a couple of bottles of spirits down the sink.
I'd have been in serious trouble otherwise.

I know what you're saying mate. I was on the p
ss from Friday at 7:00 pm to Sunday at 01:30 am, still feel like crap now. It's not the drinking that worries me the most, it's my behaviour when I'm in these states. I always manage to get into trouble and upset some people. It always makes me feel like giving up. Never mind it won't be the last time.

Like trooper, I gave up the drink some time ago, although possibly for different reasons.
Was suprising, that after the intital shock of what to do with unoccupied hands beerglass/cigarette, its not that bad actually. to sound pathetically righteous, the saving for other things (like cars) makes it bearable.
Obviously other peoples behaviour, with a couple of drinks in em' becomes a bit suprising to me now, so at the moment, I seldom go near a bar
I'm perfect me..

My drinking has dropped a massive amount over the past 12 months from an average of 4-5 pints per night (or a bottle of wine) to maybe 4-5 pints a week. I have to say that i feel a lot better for it. I have more energy my mood is more stable and i'm thinking more clearly (and i'm about a stone lighter). Not only that, but i'm saving a fortune! Having said that, by friday at 5pm i physically need a drink!!
I decided to cut back because the hangovers were killing me and i wanted it to be my decision rather than be told i had to.....

My girlfriend used to work for fidelity, and they had a yearly party and would all be picked up by coaches. The attendance was in the reigon of 2000. Drinks were free all night (one chap even threw up at the table before the meal had begun) and with unlimited free booze, as you can imagine a lot of drinking was done!! The party usually ended around 4am for many people.
Their policy: If for any reason whatsoever you are not at work before 9am the next morning (yearly party was on a Monday night) you are instantly fired.

You are not that bad... you can type!!! I love looking at some of the MSN convos I've tried to have whilst hammered and then finding them on my screen in the morning. Most of these convos are with "offline" contacts...
LMAO!
That's f***ing classic mate! So, basically, you were talking to yourself no?

Yes, thanks… eventually
. And I feel goooood
. I slept in until 10:30, spent an hour pottering round the house whilst getting ready for work, had a fry up as an early lunch and got into the office about 13:00 to find the place empty. The project manager’s not in today
So I feel pukka and don’t have to explain away my morning. A thoroughly civilised start to a working day. In fact if I could change my working day from 13:00 to 21:00 I’d do this every night/day
P.S. I’ll only put a half day on the timesheets for today in case you think I’m fleecing my clients… I’m just too honest
P.P.S. Here’s hoping the project manager doesn’t read PH
